New cabin baggage policy to improve your travel experience
Dear Passenger,
From 1st August 2012 Wizz Air will launch a trial, on selected routes, introducing two types of cabin baggage.
What is the difference between the two cabin baggage types? – SIZE!
1. Small cabin bag:
If your cabin baggage is of size 42x32x25cm or smaller it can be taken onboard free of charge. A school backpack or laptop bag that fits under the seat in front of you would typically meet this requirement. There is a weight allowance of 10kg for the small cabin bag.
2. Large cabin bag:
If your cabin baggage is larger than the dimensions of a small cabin bag, you can take it onboard for a newly introduced €10 online fee, which you can choose to pay when booking your flight. Your large cabin bag still needs to easily fit into the overhead compartments of the cabin so it should be no larger than 55x40x20cm. There is a weight allowance of 10kg for large cabin bag.
Why is Wizz Air introducing this new policy trial?
Wizz Air is trialling this new cabin baggage policy to incentivise passengers to bring smaller baggage onboard the aircraft. With fewer large items onboard, the cabin will be less crowded and the boarding process will be easier and faster for the benefit of all our passengers.
Wizz Air believes this trial, on selected routes, will reduce boarding hassle and improve on-time performance and result in an overall better travel experience. The trial is planned to end in late August; however, if the findings are not conclusive, the trial might be extended. If the trial proves successful this new cabin baggage policy will be rolled out through the entire Wizz Air network.
Which routes will be affected by this trial?
This trial will be performed on all flights operating from Katowice to London Luton and return. All other routes will be unaffected by this trial. If your Wizz Air flight is on any other route this trial does not affect you.
When does this trial start?
This trial applies to all bookings on the trial route made from 9th July 2012 onward and for travel from 1st August 2012 onward.
What do I need to do if I booked my flight on an affected route before 9th July and will travel with a large cabin bag but have not paid the fee?
The new policy is only applicable to bookings made from the 9th July onwards. If you booked prior to the 9th July, you can take your large cabin bag onboard and will not be required to pay the fee. You will however experience the new boarding procedures.
So how many bags can I bring on board?
You can chose the size of the cabin baggage you bring on board but don’t forget, Wizz Air has a strict policy which allows for only one cabin bag per passenger. Passengers who have paid for a large cabin bag will also benefit of an early boarding after priority passengers. In line with current policy, passengers can also carry onboard goods purchased at the airport after the security check in addition to their cabin baggage.
We hope you will enjoy your flight!
WIZZ team.

| What a coincidence, the airlines are forced by law to drop card charges, (see link) and hey presto they come up with a replacement called the two tiered cabin baggage system, so the normal size that we have been used to has now got a fee of £10.00. Nice one Wizzair [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

[size=150:d7co25th]Low-cost airline to charge for hand luggage
Wizz Air, the budget airline, is to start charging customers to carry hand luggage.
Wizz Air will trial to policy on its Luton-Katowice route
The Hungarian carrier will begin a trial on its route between Luton and Katowice, Poland, from August 1, which will see travellers forced to pay to take hand luggage above a certain size into the cabin.
A bag measuring 42cm x 32cm x 25cm or less will be permitted on board for free, but anything larger will incur a €10 (£7.90) charge. Bags measuring 55cm x 40cm x 20 cm or larger, or those which weigh over 10kg, will still have to be checked into the hold, for a fee of €20 (£17) on flights of under one hour and 50 minutes, and €25 (£21) on longer journeys. The airline claimed the move will improve convenience and comfort during boarding.
" Wizz Air will now improve the least popular part of flying – the often stressful and inconvenient boarding process,” said a spokesman. “We believe an online fee as low as €10 for large cabin baggage will encourage most passengers to bring only one small cabin bag that could easily fit under the seat." If the trial proves successful, Wizz plans to roll out the policy to all of its 244 routes. The policy is likely to find opposition from passengers, and raise concerns that other carriers might follow suit. US-based Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air, currently charges passengers up to $45 and $35, respectively, to carry hand luggage.
Low-cost rival easyJet said it has no plans to introduce such a charge, while a Ryanair spokesman refused to comment on whether it was considering a similar move. |

| [size=55:2jenlvml] [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Charging for hand luggage is simply churlishJust when you thought that low-cost airlines had dreamt up every possible add-on to their headline fares, another fee has come along that beggars belief. The latest in the ever-growing list of additional charges added to ‘bargain’ low-cost air fares is Wizz Air’s creative fee for bringing larger items of hand luggage onto a flight. Basically if your bag can’t fit under the seat in front of you, you’ll have to pay. By charging people €10 to use the overhead bins, the airline says it is hoping to encourage passengers to check their heavy bags into the hold (and of course pay an even higher fee for the privilege). Every time a fee is introduced, the feeble excuse usually trotted out is that the move will help the airline operate more 'efficiently' and offer passengers 'increased convenience and comfort’. Wizz Air claims their new baggage policy has received ‘positive feedback’ although from whom it doesn’t have the cheek to say – presumably its own Finance Director is particularly happy with the move. Like most passengers I want my low-cost flights to be over as quickly as possible so that I don’t have to spend a moment longer than necessary in the narrow brightly-coloured wedges that pass for budget airline seats. This move lacks logic beyond extracting a few more euros.I will support any sensible moves by airlines to find safe ways of getting all passengers on board in five minutes so that the crew can shut the doors and get on their way immediately. But this move lacks any logic beyond the simple purpose of extracting a few extra euros from the helpless travelling public. Presumably the only way the airline can police this rule is making passengers put their hand luggage into a second measuring cage at the gate, and then making offenders pay with a credit card. How on earth does that help the airline to depart on time? Like lemmings, we still book low-cost even when it clearly isn't.
Following on from web check-in fees, seat selection fees and credit card surcharges I’m hardly surprised at this latest ruse by a low cost airline. If they were operating a restaurant they would have offered us £5 steaks and then charged us an extra £7 to make a booking, £6 to sit with our partner, £3 for the cutlery and £2 to view the menu. Having declined the £5 cloakroom fee we would now be told there is a £3 charge to hang our jackets on the back of the chair. Of course we wouldn’t stand for it in a restaurant and would go to an alternative place that didn’t keep trying to fleece us at every opportunity. Yet rather like lemmings, people still refuse to give up the chase for budget airline bargains with low headline prices, even when they are anything but cheap once the whole ordeal is finished and all the little charges have been added up. What do you think? Do you feel low-cost airlines are taking people for a ride, or are they still a bargain despite all the extra fees? |

| Just booked a return flight for £297 that includes membership discount no extras, no luggage just your basic flight. You pay the debit card charge think it was £7. Then they added on a booking charge of £28 so how is that saving us money. Yes they cut down the debit card charge but added the booking fee so about £12 worse off Going to have to start looking at Bulgarian Air now |

Very wise looking elsewhere now Berni, a lot of the airlines look as though they have worked a flanker (sorry it's the Cockney coming out now!) somewhere. Why can't they " be up front" and deal with the public in an honest and open way? Would be better off booking with " Del Boy" . |
