PostSubject: Scotlands Independence   Scotlands Independence - Page 4 Icon_minitimeSun Jan 29, 2012 1:23 pm

First topic message reminder :

Can I invite the members of the forum to have a debate and post their views on the Scottish Independence issues

There are many topic's involved in a debate of this nature
Example's, Would Scotland have to join the EU if they went Independent
Which currency would they use
Would there be a border between the two countries
Would passport have to be shown when entering or leaving the country
Does it mean that there's no longer a British passport, in my case would it be English and in my wife's case be Scottish
What would happen to the people who live and work near to where the border might be
An English and Scottish married couple have children, which nationality would the children have

On a personal note, my wife is a Scottish lassie, if Scotland get's Independence does that mean that I am married to a foreigner

There are a few to go on with

Coo blimely, I've certainly started a debate with some substance here, there's plenty of meat on this bone, keep it coming folks
Regarding who rules who and whether the Scot's want to be part of the Union or not. Can I point out that the previous Labour Parliament elected by the Union for seats in the House had a fair number of Scottish representatives including (Gordon Brown) and a Scottish educated Prime Minister :Scotlands Independence - Page 4 3897195628: Scotlands Independence - Page 4 2345823347 Scotlands Independence - Page 4 3998065313

I think you might find that "

The way I see it, England should have the right to have their own say about matters involving Scotland and Wales, should they have the right to block independance.....No!.

But then again, if England had a referendum tomorrow and the majority asked for Scotland and Wales to be cut loose, then the sitting government should respect their wishes, but lets face it, that will never happen.

Labour don't want Scottish Independence, any Independence for Scotland would kill any chance of Labour getting back into power in London. The Tories don't want it because it would cause too many headaches for them to deal with especially when it comes to business's that operates north and south of the border, not to mention the fact that they would lose much needed revenue from the North Sea Oil fields.

The BNP would probably favour it until they saw an army of immigrants marching to the English border, then even they would be scurrying around like headless chickens.

Only my opinion here by the way. Scotlands Independence - Page 4 3356871870

A little snippet from the BBC website.

It seems that Michelle Mone the Scottish based inventor of the ULTIMO Uplift Bra has threatened to move her business and home to London if Scotland gets its Independence. She did however threaten to do this before the last election if the the SNP took power.

She is quoted as saying in her statement, "
Everything would go up and I really don't think we need it at the moment."

I think it is a rich quote considering she made her millions from keeping things up. Scotlands Independence - Page 4 1865348797

It would now seem that Mr Tunnock whose factory in Uddingston turns out those Tea Cakes, Caramel Wafers and those Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Snowballs with a Coconut covering that all Scottish children are reared on, has now decided that he doesn't like the Independence idea. I believe he has quite a good export market which would help a new economy as well as being the main employer in that town. Although he hasn't said he is deserting the sinking ship, his worries would need to be assured by the SNP, prior Referendum.

If he departs along with Michelle, this will be most notable in smaller bellys and flat chests. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

What a loss. How much more can a country take.

So, Big Alec (the guy who rules Scotland) has met with the Scottish Secretary ( the English guy who thinks he rules Scotland)and no blood was spilled. Phew, thank the lord.

The time of the Referendum does not seem to an issue any more (a stepdown for the Westminster) and the Electoral Commision to oversee the Referendom is no longer an issue(a stepdown for the SNP). Scotlands Independence - Page 4 1536469901

Now we are down to the 16/17 year old voting issue and the 1 or 2 question issue and the deals done.

I haven't managed to find out yet if they flew up EL Cheepo EasyJet or a private Charter or what was on the lunch menu (Curry, if Big Eck had his way) or Haggis and Neeps just to Pi** Off the English but either way they they all got home safe, this time........... Mel, where did you leave that blue paint?

So, the Westminster PM (Dave, as his wife likes to call him) has decided today, to offer to the Scottish people more powers or rather to his puppet Goverment in Scotland, more powers if they vote NO.

Scotland or rather its majority SNP Parliament has been asking this for years. Oh, there are too many issues to resolve, far too many constitutional issues that would need to to be passed, bla, bla, bla. Suddenly, nothing is a problem, this can all be resolved in 24 months if you vote the right way.

Why? If Scotland is an nonentity, gets more than it gives, is a drain on the UK them surely, the oil is running out anyway, best be rid of the beast. Why offer incentives to keep it onboard.

No, Scotland is worth more, and suddenly....... we have to take notice and throw some crumbs, to see off the beast that is the rising will of the people.

I can understand why the UK Government want the Referendum now, because in 2 years time, the people in England will not only want Scotland gone, but his Government as well.

The SNP will be there in 2015, Dave. I doubt very much if you will be!!

There is good World Market for paid Public Speakers. See Tony Blair.com for details of how much the working mans Prime Minister can make from being a right prat.

Why is Cameron wasting his breath? Let the Scots have their referendum! I have no doubt the Scots will want to remain in the Union, they can't afford to do otherwise! And then, when the Scots have faced the reality of their position, which, as far as Salmond is concerned, is no different from the truculent teenager running away from home, only to realise that he or she has no means of supporting themselves, then take steps to remove the educational and health care apartheid that so rankles the English, and stop giving an unfair advantage to the Scots at the cost of the English taxpayer. Cameron can say what he likes about wanting the Union with his head, heart and soul, but unless he is honest, and tells us why he thinks the Union is good for the English, and it is not, he is just going to continue to appear just like every other flaky politician, and he will be voted into the weeds at the next election...

When Scotland becomes it's own EU country. If it happens, are they as ready as they think.. All UK government agencies will be there responsibility, from motorway design, monetarily they can use the Euro, prisons, pensions, healthcare, infrastructure, can Scotland really afford this. Perhaps, but it will not be easy and it will be costly to their own entity. Will tourism, which is huge in England, be as robust if Scotland would be like an Ireland. You do not hear of people here stating they are going to the UK/Britain, they state they are going to England or Ireland whatever the case may be. Tourism is huge money. There is a fascination with England having the royal family and it's houses;
the usual touristy landmarks. I don't see the pull (although having been in Scotland many times realise why it's a wonderful place to visit) to embark on a Island visit being one of strictly Scotland as a destination.

I have just been talking to my wife about all this, she is Scottish and she reminded me that she came to England 48 years ago, married me an Englishman 46 years ago and she will always refer to herself as a Brit but a true Scot having a British passport, a British driving licence etc

I have just listened to the BBC coverage of the latest Scottish Referendum News and it is hard for me to understand how and why they want independence when 100's of issues will have to be addressed, and it could take years, for instance Scotland will have to re-apply to join the EU and NATO to name a couple. It's one thing Scotland saying we won't play football against England, but this Referendum issue is not a game as it will have serious effects on many people's lives worldwide
