Ryanair Takes Off to Bulgaria's Plovdiv City in September

Irish low-cost air carrier Ryanair will launch flights to Bulgaria's Plovdiv airport in September this year, a deputy minister has announced.

“The company has certain requirements that airports should meet, including low fees,” Economy and Energy Minister Ivo Marinov announced on Thursday.

Ryanair representatives visited Bulgaria last month, conferred with Transport Minister Alexander Tsvetkov and visited Plovdiv airport to finalize an agreement.

According to Plovdiv airport executive director Doychin Anguelov the attraction of low-fare air companies is part of the airport strategy to increase its passengers and revenues.

Ryanair has been planning to launch flights to Plovdiv airport for several years.

Plovdiv became even more attractive for air companies as of April 1, when its fees were sharply reduced and stand three times lower that the fees at the airport in the capital Sofia. The low fees will be in forced for two years.

The Plovdiv Regional Governor, Ivan Totev, will attend the ceremony for the official launch of regular flights between London and Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv.

The flights would be executed by the budget career Ryanair.

The first passengers will land in Plovdiv at 11 am Tuesday at the Plovdiv airport brand new terminal.

Totev says regular flights from and to Plovdiv are one of the main steps towards the Region's economic recovery. Upon taking office, the Governor vowed to make the airport development a priority.

"
After one year of determination and thanks to the joint effort of the State, the airport's management and the municipalities, the launch of the regular line of the Irish Ryanair is now a fact,"
Totev says.

Been doing my research as usual. g

Be careful with the prices on Ryanair as they are sometimes not all they seem. Be reminded that you pay extra for Hold Baggage plus as there is a limit of 15 KG per bag can workout rather expensive at 20 Pounds per bag. Although you are allowed 2 bags. Always check the bolt on costs.

This is the same as any other so called low cost airlines
I would assume that most people using this flight will be going ski-ing so whatever the basic flight price is you can add approx another £70 to £80 for the extras including skies Ryanair discussion - Page 3 2706089290

If I read correctly RYANAIR flight No FR 1837 Plovdiv to Stansted today did not take off on time Ryanair discussion - Page 3 927475117
It was scheduled to depart at 13.30hrs and due to a ground handling delay the estimated time of departure was 15.40hrs
Not very good news for the maiden flight, but look on the bright side folk, at least they got to Plovdiv Airport
and the pilot didn't get lost on his new route in his Boeing 737 Ryanair discussion - Page 3 1865348797 Ryanair discussion - Page 3 2706089290

Taken from the Sofia Echo

The world's largest low-cost airline, the Irish company Ryanair, launches on Tuesday a new route from London Stansted to the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.

"
Plovdiv is Bulgaria's second largest city with a rich and varied history dating back 8,000 years. Plovdiv makes a great city break destination and is also within easy access of the ski resorts of Bansko and Pamporovo."
a spokesperson of Ryanair has said.

The new London Stansted-Plovdiv airline is expected to draw about 30 000 passengers annually, whose number could go up to 200 000 by 2013.

The Ryanair flights from London Stansted to Plovdiv will be available twice a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays. One-way fares will start from GBP 32.99 including taxes.

Ryanair has said it may increase the number of flights to Plovdiv in the near future and will also consider the opening of lines from Bulgaria to Spain and Italy, where there are large numbers of Bulgarian immigrants.

Ryanair has been planning to launch flights to Plovdiv airport for several years.

Plovdiv became even more attractive for air companies as of April 1, when its fees were sharply reduced and now stand three times lower that the fees at the airport in the capital Sofia. The low fees will be in force for two years.

Bulgaria, which attracted a number of low-cost carriers thanks to its accession to the European Union and fast economic growth in the years right after its entry, is expected to continue to see the expansion of their market share.

I think we will see a case of Sprat an Mackerel with the airlines, Bulgaria lowers the cost reels them in for a short time and then they bail out Ryanair discussion - Page 3 794030042

I think you have a very valid point there sallyann it does look as though Bulgaria entices these airlines with false promises and they they cancel all flights its almost like kids playing

I have a friend who thought they had got a good deal but by the time they had finished adding for this and that it worked out to be more expensive so it just shows the cheap is not all its said to be
