Ryanair Starts Regular Flights from London to Bulgaria’s Plovdiv
The world’s largest low-cost airline, the Irish company Ryanair, has announced the launching of a new route from London Stansted to the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.
“Plovdiv is Bulgaria’s second largest city with a rich and varied history dating back 8,000 years. Plovdiv makes a great city break destination and is also within easy access of the ski resorts of Bansko and Pamporovo.” a spokesperson of Ryanair has said.
According to the marketing manager of Ryanair Laszlo Tamas, the new London Stansted-Plovdiv airline will draw about 30 000 passengers annually, whose number could go up to 200 000 by 2013.
The first flight of the new route will take place on November 2, 2010; the Ryanair flights from London Stansted to Plovdiv will be available twice a week.
Tamas said in the future Ryanair will increase the number of flights to Plovdiv, and will also consider the opening of lines from Bulgaria to Spain and Italy, where there are large numbers of Bulgarian immigrants.
The Plovdiv Airport, whose renovation in 2009 cost BGN 45 M, will prepare for meeting the Ryanair requirements in the months before November.
One-way Ryanair fares for Plovdiv will start from GBP 32.99 including taxes. |

| I Also kept getting an error then I sat and read things properly Lol The 500,000 flights for £8.00 are only valid throughout September to celebrate this new Stanstead to Plovdiv Route according to the Ryanair Hype, however, they also say that the Plovdiv route does not start until 2nd November So lets look at it this way, they are giving £8 flights to All of their other destinations to celebrate the new route ?????? I've been trying to work this one out since 2pm this afternoon and still cant fathom it out |

| Yep your right and the 8 pound flights are for other destinations. But the site still does not allow you to book anything at all. Well not yet anyway. Technology must be Bulgarian. |

Bulgaria Air mulls official protest over Ryanair 'privileges'
se of the " privileges" it claims were granted to Ryanair by the Bulgarian Government, media reports said on August 6 2010.
" If the Cabinet continues to maintain a low profile on the issue, we’ll forward the matter to the European Commission," Svetoslav Stanoulov, head of the Bulgarian Airlines Association, told Sega daily. Stanoulov insisted that this was an example of unfair competition on the local market.
Ryanair is launching its first Bulgarian connection from London Stansted to Plovdiv, a company media statement said on August 5 2010.
The new route will bring Ryanair’s annual traffic at Plovdiv to about 30 000 passengers, while sustaining 30 local jobs permanently in the process, according to the media statement.
According to reports, Ryanair are to " provide Bulgarian and British passengers with the lowest fares to and from Bulgaria" .
The news that the company will be operating to and from Plovdiv was reported early in 2010. In May, Ryanair once again confirmed it was planning to fly to and from Bulgaria’s second largest city, starting in September 2010.
" Ryanair is delighted to announce its first Bulgarian connection from London Stansted to Plovdiv to provide Bulgarian clients and British visitors the guaranteed lowest fares from/to Bulgaria" .
" The new route will ensure that Plovdiv and its regional tourism will develop further and even more jobs will be created both in the city and in the region," Ryanair said on August 5. |

| I cant see what the problem is with Bulgaria Air? Basically the 3 provinces have clubbed together to enable Plovdiv Airport to offer cheaper landing fee's not the Bulgarian Government, if Bulgarian Air had Balls they would do the same as Ryanair and refuse to fly to the airports with excessive landing fee's. Dont get me wrong, I aint a supporter of Ryan Air, moreso because Plovdiv is 1 hr further away from us than Sofia, but fair do's to them if they can offer cheaper flights because of cheaper overheads, now if I think rightly, thats call business sense. It's a shame Ryan Air hadn't decided on Gorna which is only 1 1\2 hrs away from us |
