I have been brooding, tossing and turning all night as I have something on my mind and not sure how to sort it without interfearing or causing disruption. Basically there s a little lady in our village who is bedbound, she does not go anywhere and now found out she sees nobody apart from her husband. We were passing her house and were invited in just to say hello, this poor lady was in tears when she saw us and it broke my heart to see her so stressfull but full of joy at seeing someone. I wanted to take her to the festial yesterday we would have picked her up in the jeep borrow a wheelchair etc she would have come too but her husband was not keen, I could have pushed really and talked him round. I need to help this couple but would I be sticking my nose in. I intend to visit her a few times a week will ask the others if they can all come for coffee once a week with her, I will provided the coffee etc again would that be appropriate here in BG.. I don't want to cause upset What do you think please!!

'Tis a nice thing you are thinking of doing Bernie. She would almost certainly welcome some outside company from time to time...take her a nice bunch of flowers, bake a cake or some cookies and sort of drop in on the pretext that you were just passing or that you made too many cookies and thought they might like some. You know these people well enough (in fact, this applies to most Bulgarians), if she knows you are coming, she will try and have/make nibbles or snacks for her guests and that may be a bit much for her.

I would ask her if she is happy with the idea of a small group of ladies coming by for a visit/chat and coffee every now and then. The answer might surprise you.

Anyway, I know you will sort it out.

Ah thanks Baz, never thought of flowers will get them next time. I have visited her twice since the post, first time was after the festival in the hall and I took my laptop so I could show her the photos. She loved looking at them and seeing everyone I took it from her expression that she has not seen many of them for a while. I was there for just under an hour which was great for her. I also explained that we will be setting up a knitting group in the hall from Sept and we would love to see her there, she hesitated at first but then I explained I would pick her up in the jeep and have a wheelchair at the hall so there would be no problem at all. We could start of with an hour and see how she gets on. Husband was in agreement too do seem like we have a plan in operation.

I also called in on Sunday afternoon and to my surprise she was sitting outside the house under the shade knitting. So I sat by her chatted and asked her advise on how to sew on a backing on a crochet blanket I made for a little old boy in the village to brighten his house up a bit. We chatted for a while I have brought her some after sun cream and she loved the smell. Stay about 40 mins this time. She was delighted to see me and asked when I was coming again althought I can come anytime. Did not commit myself just said when I have spare time I will pop up. So she will be looking forward to the visit.

Perfect...no pressure on either side.

I said I would pop in to see her every day until her husbands returns, he has gone to hospital for 4 days and her daughter in law has come to help her. I bring her little treats but she also knitted me some teralits (sock like shoes) they were a small size so she ripped them back a bit and knitted them much bigger. She seems like a different lady now bless her full of life and laughter. She looks forward to my visits. Today I will not go but will go tomorrow he should be home tomorrow. The daughter in law is lovely and very chatty so great company for her.
