Radio Great Britain – Update 17th April 2010

Stage 1 - Launch

Radio Great Britain launched on Easter Monday and after two weeks of part-time live broadcasting has attracted 460 listeners overall. We thank you for your support which is most and sincerely appreciated. Please continue to spread the word and copy/paste this update for circulation via email etc.

RadioGB is a member of the British Community Media Association and adheres to its code of practice. We cannot offer training facilities at the moment but continue to invite listeners to submit community and listener generated material for broadcast. We will offer you where we can support in doing this. For example most high end mobile phones work as digital recorders, after downloading FREE a shareware sound editing programme called Audacity, these recordings can be edited on any computer and then emailed to us at [email:29cwbebs]otakustudios@gmail.
com[/email:29cwbebs]

Material should be ‘broadcast ready’ and of interest to our target audience of British Bulgarian Communities. It must not contain offensive, discriminatory or libellous content. If in doubt check out the Ofcom Broadcasting Code – download free at Ofcom.com

We currently run several free of charge advertisements for not for profit charitable organisations such as The Silistra Orphanage, The Bulgarian Society For Animal Protection & Preservation, The Roma Education Fund and the Bulgarian Dron Project for Roma Inclusion. Please send us your organisations ad for inclusion – yes! It is completely free of charge.

We use the forum [url=http:

We are making them an advert free of charge and will hyperlink our new website (under construction) in appreciation and gratitude!

We make a small charge for commercial advertising to cover our running costs but are happy to make deals such as hyperlinked banner swaps for small businesses for a limited period only. We are also happy to run free ads for bars, restaurants and clubs etc who will agree to have our station on air in the presence of its customers.

Schedule

During the live ExPat Focus Bulgaria programme (UK 5pm / Bulgaria 7pm) the output has consisted typically of 70% Bulgarian news, 20% wider E.U news and 10% UK news, predominantly headlines only. Music is now balanced approximately at 50% Bulgarian and Traditional and 50% UK/World popular. A full 3 day weather forecast for Bulgaria is given twice within the programme.

Many new presenters/broadcasters have joined us for some great 3hr evening shows such as Alex and his Virtual Pub Quiz, Rock n Roll and Diabolical Disks programme every Monday. Dominic Forbes and his 3hr Soft Rock Show every Thursday and Tommy on Fridays with his Big Fat Party Anthems Dance Show. Much more s on its way so stay tuned!

After 9pm Bulgaria time we auto play ‘The English Zone’ until 7pm the following evening ready for ExPat Focus Live at 7pm. This is a carefully chosen selection of shared media from other British and World Community stations and BBC language programmes with consent to give non-English speakers assistance in grasping the English language and understanding a true representation of British Culture. If you have programmes to include in The English Zone we look forward to receiving them.

Stage 2 – Full Time Broadcasting

We are working hard at becoming a full-time station but this requires considerable cost. We have approached specific private companies with the hope of securing commercial sponsorship and are examining a varied source of funding options. These are extremely limited as we are non UK based so cannot access Lottery Grants etc and as we do not broadcast on FM, cannot access the traditional sources for radio funding. If you know of any source or business that may help, we would love to hear from them!

Stage 3 – FM / Digital Radio

RadioGB has secured a transmitter site at 5oo meters above sea level in North Central Bulgaria and initial tests are favourable for an FM based station that could potentially reach the Romanian Border. We have invited Bulgarian Radio Stations to join us as potential partners. Watch this space.

THANK YOU for supporting Radio Great Britain!
