I do know some very nice Bulgarians and love the village i live in , so my advice keep your self to your self and laugh off stupid people on the Internet .
Finding this a bit worrying. Is this in general or more in the 'ex-pat communities'? Or is it more a problem in larger villages or towns? I must admit I like the idea of having at least one English speaking person in whichever vicinity we may settle in, if only for emergencies, but have no desire to be in a 'home from home' situation surrounded by bored pensioners with nothing to do but make trouble for others. We would rather integrate into the Bulgarian rural community if possible. We don't drink or smoke and like to grow as much of our food as we can. Is this frowned upon by the ex-pats? |

| No this is not a general consensus only the experience of johnbaz who unfortunately from what I can gather has only had bad experiences but there are plenty of Brits here in Bg that you would be proud to call your friends but as John as kind of said there are also those to avoid so what's the difference between here and any other country ? nothing!! |

| That's OK then, thanks for that. Must admit I don't socialise with our neighbours anyway, though we always speak.
Mr Eq uses Facebook for immediate friends and family only. He has a very short list of 'friends' and using Facebook is frowned upon by his work.
I don't bother, and am useless with computers anyway. My work (supermarket) encourages you to use it ...............wonder why?

Qoute " " We don't drink or smoke and like to grow as much of our food as we can. Is this frowned upon by the ex-pats? " " it certainly isn,t , not by the majority anyway ..... |

| Ooops sorry Varnagirl, just misquoting and getting it wrong....got pensioners from somewhere but not Johnbaz, added it to his thoughts. (Sorry Johnbaz)
I am close to being a pensioner myself, but hope I will be able to find enough to do with preserving, chickens etc once we are up and running. I like a peaceful life, as does Mr Eq, but with things to do. I also, as I said earlier, work in a supermarket who employ many Eastern Europeans mostly on the night shift, and have a worry that I may be like about 20% of them who have been here years but will only talk to their own and though they generally understand English, will not speak it and so do not communicate except when they have to with managers. We would rather try to live in harmony with the Bugarian people, as indeed we try to when on holiday in Greece. Whatever their age!!!! I'm sure it will make for a much happier and relaxed existance. |

- I have not posted on this forum for sometime and did post on this topic simply because I find facebook a very dangerous site, there is someone that advertises on this forum that is spreading lies about me on a closed page group on facebook. I dont want anything to do with this person, therefore dont even want to be a member of any forum that this person is on. The thing is I have never posted anything rude nasty or horrible about his person but they seem to be doing this about me, they have a problem, and dont have the guts to face me with whatever there problem is with me.
Sorry to hear this perhaps you should contact admin and let him know that one of the advertisers isn't all they may seem to be? To be honest I dont see the point of mentioning it to Admin as they have every right to advertise on here and I would not dream of lowering myself to there level, My point is that they are just spouting a load of lies on a closed group facebook page, to be honest I think that it is pathetic, and I am quite sure that anyone who does not know me probably believes what is being said, just rather suprised that there are members on there that have known the person for a long time and seem to believe what they are saying. Oh well it takes all sorts to make the world go round, that is all I have to say on the matter so goodbye from the stalker as this is what I am being called on there by these people |

| Well JB good for you, but we have to remember everyone is to their own and people like different things - When you get a community of the same nationality living abroad naturally they like to meet up and do the things they do back home. It is not only the British who do this, we have Polish, Spanish, Italians events going on here in the UK all the time and why not, if it helps them. Sometimes you need to know there are others around who you can have good old chat with. Oddy |

| forums and facebook are the tools for modern day socialising, its your choice as with everything in life whether you use these tools. I do find it hypocritical when people judge and label others about using forums when they have had a large contribution into this topic. |

| The point is if you site in front of a computer all day you are wasting your time and your life be it on face book or a forum . The only reason i am posting on here at the moment is that i have been doing some work organising some thing which can only be done on a computer as well as it been to hot for me to do what i should be doing . |

I have to disagree with this statement totally. I sit in front of my computer 10-16 hours a day, because it is my life. If I didn't use my screen and keyboard, I wouldn't make any money, and that's been the same story for the last 15 years or more. I may not fiddle around with facebook or twitter or any other 'social networks' but I certainly don't think that by using my computer and earning enough of a living to put food on the table is 'wasting my time' or 'my life'. I also walk a lot, travel a lot, have family, have friends and therefore, because I am obliged to use a keyboard and screen to earn a living do not consider myself sad or a geek. |

| Johnbaz I think that maybe you have misunderstood what I ment about someone making out they were me on Facebook, they made a fack page the same as mine, same picture everything then announced that we were retiring, all our work was cancelled, even had the cheek to talk to my daughter making out they were me. To me this is serious not just a little gossoping as you say. |
