Parts of Bulgaria under Heavy Snow Warning
The Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has declared a code yellow for southern Bulgaria over heavy snow fall.
Code yellow is a warning meaning people must use caution because the weather is potentially dangerous.
Currently, the heaviest snow fall is registered in north western Bulgaria, reaching 26 cm in the Danube city of Vidin. In the afternoon, however, the snow will move to to the eastern and southern parts of the country. High accumulations are expected.
There is also a code yellow for strong winds in eastern Bulgaria, particularly on the Black Sea coast all day long. The city of Burgas has registered gusts of 70 km/h. |

February Snow Grips Bulgaria
The Sofia City Hall informs cleaning contractor companies have treated all roads in the capital used by public transportation vehicles.
The Bulgarian capital Sofia awoke Wednesday morning under a blanket of fresh February snow.
Traffic conditions are treacherous and traffic is slow, but public transportation is not experiencing significant delays.
The City Hall reminds home-owners and store managers are responsible for cleaning the snow in front of buildings. The Traffic Police ask all drivers to adhere to speed limits; get on the road only if their auto mobile is ready for the winter weather, and use extreme caution.
Roads in the country are passable under winter conditions, the Road Infrastructure Agency informs.
Roads are wet and covered with snow; there is ice on higher elevations. The Trakiya and Hemus highways are wet.
The mountain passes Tvarditsa-Elena, Etropole-Zlatitsa, Varbishki and Dyulinski are closed for trucks. Trailers are banned in the passes Troyan-Karnare and Vratnik, and on most roads in the Rhodope Mountains where tire chains are required.
Low visibility due to fog is impeding traffic in the Lovech area and on the Pleven-Lovech road in northern Bulgaria. |

Pat. Many thanks Pat for your very useful information, I shall be over on Wednesday the 7th and will have a think about packing some thermals to be on the safe side. In the meantime, here in Turkey the evenings are still baking hot and also humid, your info about it being much cooler in BG has come as a shock!!! Eric |

This is for the UK
Britain to be hit by SNOW in October... forecasters warn an early winter is on its way
Britain is about to experience an early winter, with snow expected to arrive as soon as next month, forecasters have warned.
Temperatures over the next three months will plummet to below average with one long-range forecaster predicting snowfalls in October.
James Madden, of Exacta Weather, said: ‘I expect to see the first signs of some moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK.
I expect December, January and February to experience below-average temperatures, with the heaviest snowfall occurring within the time frame of November to January across many parts of the UK.
‘Huge swirly low-pressure systems also offer the potential for widespread disruption from heavy snowfall across many parts of the UK including the South, as they clash with the predominant cold air.’
He added that Scotland and the North would face the worst weather, including possible ‘blizzard-like conditions’.
The UK and Ireland have also been forecast to experience extreme cold conditions and snow from the Arctic for prolonged periods.
Netweather forecaster Paul Michaelwaite has also predicted ‘widespread’ snowfall as early as November.
He told the Daily Express: ‘Over the past four years November snow has not been rare at all, and with temperatures below the average there is the chance of some widespread falls.’
Meanwhile, The Met Office has said that below average temperatures in October mean there is a chance of upcoming overnight frosts, which would be seen predominantly in the Midlands and south-east.
And Weather Services International agreed that October, November and December would be hit with temperatures approximately two degrees lower than the average.
WSI’s chief meteorologist, Dr Todd Crawford, told the Express: ‘We currently expect the coldest temperatures to be confined to western Europe.’
Last winter parts of the UK experienced up to 30 inches of snow and temperatures fell to -19C.
The UK has already been hit by Hurricane Katia this month, which has left Britain’s clean-up bill at around £100 million, experts said last week.
The storm was the worst Britain has seen in 15 years after winds of up to 80mph left a trail of devastation. |

Banks gone bust, pensions gone bust, energy prices sky high, food prices rocketing, industrial output shrinking, double dip recession looming, Quantitative Easing, Riots in the Streets, and it goes on and on and on. Now Blizzards in October!! Dont the Media make you want to laugh!!! and laugh!! and laugh!!! |

| I wonder If this is true and WILL Cameron except the responsibility for the DEATHS of the pensioners that cannot keep warm BECAUSE HE has cut the Heating Allowance . They have now to decide if they can EAT or HEAT they cannot afford to do BOTH with the increases of the Gas and Electric. What is he going to do about these increases.---------- NOTHING I BET, he is all right jack . This useless PM does NOT care about anybody but himself the UK and its people do not concern him as we know has been proved in the past. Sorry if I have gone off topic a little but it is relevant to this report. |

| Autumn finally came in Bulgaria on Friday, putting an end to the country's summer days.
Relatively cold weather has marked the past several days before the official start of the autumn in the Balkan state.
The September equinox occurs at 09:04 (or 9:04am) Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on September 23, 2011. It is also referred to as the autumnal or fall equinox in the northern hemisphere, as well as the spring or vernal equinox in the southern hemisphere. This is due to the seasonal contrasts between both hemispheres throughout the year.
During the equinox, the length of night and day across the world is nearly, but not entirely, equal. |
