l am a little confused of whether to change British pounds to Euro's
Will l increase the capital or will l lose on this

Would it be better for me to bring the British pound over to Bulgaria and change it into lev's then to Euro's

l will be recieving the money shortly from my house l sold here in Turkey,and l need to know what will be the best exchange for me for maximum capital.

l do have some lira's in my account here.But would you think it would be risky to change british pound's to lira's and then from there change itinto lev's or Euro's.
Can someone please give me the best route to take

In the present climate and with the Euro being very unstable its going to be a difficult decision, I would change a small amount into Euros and then play it by ear

I think your right bigsavak its between the river and the deep blue sea right now so its a case of doing a good search round, you may want to drop an email to trust they have someone on there who knows about this sort of thing

I don't know, no one does, but it's important to know there's no right answer. Exchange rates fluctuate as wildly and unpredictably as shares on stock markets. There's nothing wrong with trying to guess movements by buying early or holding off, but it's called currency speculation, and is a gamble even highly-paid City traders can't always get right. The pound may be weak right now but that doesn't mean it can't get weaker (or stronger).

Agree with you guys it is a difficult decision right now. however, it depends on how much you are talking about, if it is holiday money than take a small amount in lev and the rest in £ pounds the rate of exchange is much better in BG than in the UK. Euro is very poor at the moment and of course not used in BG. If it is a large amount of funds than always get best advice from your bank or financial advisor.

Hi,
According to me it s better to exchange the pounds directly in leva. In that way you make just one exchange operation. If you exchange the pounds in Euro, and then the Euro in leva, these are 2 operations and you lose from the exchange rates.

Hi snail we live in Turkey as well. When we sell we are keeping a lot of ours in Lira and possibly sell and buy a few times with sterling. The pound weakens every Friday and strengthens again every Monday as regular as clockwork, don't know why, possibly people taking profits at the weekend. It appears to be a "
good little earner"
as Del Boy would say, you've got to be careful how and when you change it though.

:: are moving over to Bulgaria soon. They sold their house here in the UK and now considering their options as to how to get the funds to Bulgaria - ie should they move it all to Bulgaria, if so which account euro, lev or stirling account. What is the cheapest and best way of doing this. They have tried moving some of it to the bank in Bulgaria but for some reason it has been rejected - they checked with Nationwide they have the right codes and also check with the Bulgarian bank and all codes seem ok but the transfer will not go through and Nationwide has charged them twice for this service (even though the funds did not go thought) said it is a fault with the Bulgaria bank and they have done their service, which is not at all correct.

So replies on how to transfer funds to Bulgaria any ideas please Thanks.

Hi Bernie,

We used the HSBC and \swift/. Worked fine.

I would advise if these guys are on pension have the pension paid into a UK bank and use a hole in the wall over here. The HSBC do not charge for cash withdrawals if they have a Plus Account. There may be others that offer the same service but I think the Nationwide who used to do it now don't.

Nationwide started charging for withdrawing money from foreign ATMs in November last year, but only if you withdraw money in foreign currency. If you withdraw the cash in Sterling it is still free, you would still have to find someone to change it into Lev though, but normally that would be a better rate of exchange than drawing it straight from an ATM in Levs.

no, do not move all your money over here, at least you know its safe in the uk. the alliance bank have tried to do everything to stop us taking our money back to the uk. all they can offer us is a life policy or a pension scheme, not good enough. ::
we had problems trying to get money over, it was held up at sofia, the iban number had a 1 they thought it was an i. it now transfers directly to my local account, not sofia.

I would agree with starlite only take what you think you need for now and then when your ready move it to wherever your happy with
