hi every one,

this is our experience of getting our three children into a BG school.

our children are twins aged 8 and a girl aged 10.

Firstly we went to visit a few schools with a translater, just to get a look around them.

after choosing the school that we liked the best, we asked the Directer (head master/mistress) what we needed to to to get them enrolled.

we were told that we needed the childrens last school report,birth certificates translated and notorisied, then to visit the educational director in Burgas to get the application forms.

well we were told that she spends only two days in Burgas and the rest of the week in Sofia, so we had a Bulgarian friend ring the office, and we were told to go to the school and to tell the school director to ring her...then the children could start school right away

so today weve done just that, the children start school tomorrow morning(tuesday)

we also got the applications forms from the educational director, these must be filled in in Bulgarian and each has a tax of ten leva.
once they are submitted it can take up to two months to process, but no body seems interested in being offical....it makes a first.

things that we have been told by several people during this process is that we must go to sofia get the children enrolled....what a crock of SH1T% as all this can be done in your nearest city.

things that the school will provide are free lunch as the children are under 12 and also they get 150 hours extra Bulgarian lessons each per year free....wish i could sit in on this...lol.

also if your british you do not have to pay any fee for your childrens education under EU rules!!!!!

our children speak no bulgarian, and the school have told us that its not a problem...i wll let you know how they have faired later.

With reference to your e-mail of 17 September 2010, concerning tuition fees for your children in Bulgaria, and with apologies for the delay, I would like to inform you that in matter of tuition fees the principle of non-discrimination on grounds of nationality must be applied (Article 18 of the Treaty on the functioning of the European Union).

Consequently, if Bulgarian pupils who attain the same school of your children have to pay a fee of 800 euros per year, you should also pay the same amount. You cannot be required to pay an amount set exclusively for pupils having the nationality of a Member State other than Bulgaria.

If you have other questions on this subject, my services are ready to answer.

I see Lou hasn't been back for sometime and was wondering if all the information supplied had helped her in anyway ??????

Our son has been at our local village school since Sept 2008. This September he will be moving to a high school in Bourgas (which one depends on this May's exam results). So far the process seems similar to switching to a senior school in UK except for the catchment area issue. We have to pick 3 high schools in the next couple of weeks, submit our choices and after the exam results are known the selection process starts. The selection process takes a couple of months in various stages so we won't know for definate until the summer - joy of joys.

Hi all, i just thought i would give you an update on how the kids are doing in school .... as its been a while since i first started this topic.

Right now there on the long summer vacation ..but they return to school on the 15th of september.

They all scored top grades of 6, they can now read,write &
speak most Bulgarian ...they are execellent translators which helps me out a lot.....although i know some Bulgarian i will never be as good as them (old brain).

The kids fitted in well in there new souroundings &
made good friends....they have been on many school trips &
even joined the dance &
drama group in the school....which led to a school concert where the Bulgarians had to speak English &
our kids Bulgarian...but they coped very well.

when they return to school shortly they are all now on the same shift (thankfully) as the first shift starts at 7.30 am &
the second shift does not finnish untill 6.30 pm ....and this can mean your day totaly revolves around school ...well not me but the wife ...lol...although i do help out where i can.

Uniforms are compulsary, but this only seems to last for the first few weeks ...&
then just special days...the kids hate wearing it as they have red checked waist coats...but i think they look realy smart.
