Hi Everyone,

I have become friendly with a young Englsih teacher here who teaches predominantly Roma children in a school in the village of Zlatia near Lom.

They have nothing, no desks, blackboards,. writing equipment and not likely to be provided with any really, given the Bulgarian view of gypsies in general.

Surely these children deserve the same chance in life as any other, They are willing to go to school, eager to learn, and education can only improve their lot in life.

Has anyone any ideas as to where would be a good place to launch such an appeal in the UK, here or elsewhere, bearing in mind logistics, transport issues etc.

Please help, with ideas at least, if you can

How about emailing some schools here in the UK, or perhaps the Girl Guides or something.

Hi Anglachanka have you heard of a group in VT called priateli...They are fundraisers and raise money in our area for needy causes.Also oddball organises charitable work for orphans in her area.Perhaps contact them and get some ideas. If there are any english in your area contact them and try and do some fundraising .It would be good to get some young bulgarians on board too..If you do facebook I can put you onto the priateli group.

Not much of an English community here and dwindling all the time as the dissatisfied ones head back to the UK
