New School Tax to Be Introduced in Bulgaria
Municipality where our children study will collect 2-percent income tax
The latest idea about filling community budgets that landed on the Bulgarian financial pundits is the introduction of a school tax. About two percent of household incomes will be paid over to the municipality where our child is studying. The proposal was voiced by deputy finance minister Vladislav Goranov. The collected taxes will be allotted for the maintenance of kindergartens, parks, paving, etc. The problem is that currently income taxes are paid to the municipality that issued your ID. Many people, however, work in one town while their children study in the other. That is why the idea is to let them use community services only in a place where they have address registration. For instance, if your child goes to school or daycare center in Sofia you have to be a holder of Sofia-registered ID.
