Situation along border checkpoints
Traffic through border checkpoints is normal, FOCUS News Agency correspondents inform.
Measures for ÃÂÃÂ1N1 prevention have been taken along all border checkpoints.
On January 1 and 2 it is expected the traffic along Kulata border checkpoint, Ilinden-Ekzohi and Novo selo to be more intensive due to the holidays. IN comparison-about 170 000 people have passed the three Bulgaria-Greece border checkpoints-Kulata, Ilinden and Kapitan Petko Voyboda in the four days of holiday on Christmas. According to the observations about 60 000 vehicles have passed the border checkpoints on both directions. 65% of the traffic has been concentrated at the Kulata border checkpoint. The traffic along Ilinden border checkpoint was less intensive.
Bulgarians, who travel to North Greece, should know the control is strengthened during the holidays. In an interview with FOCUS News Agencythe head of interim of the Bulgarian General Consulate in Thessaloniki Lachezar Ivanov said that especially in the region of Serest her will be two more than the usual posts in the region of Promahon-Thessaloniki.
“The police are mobilized to secure the order along the roads. There are landslides along Thessaloniki-Athens road, which are not cleaned yet. The traffic is redirected along Larisa and along Kozani on Athens-Thessaloniki road,†Lachezar Ivanov said.
There is new organization in passing through Kalotina border checkpoint. Cars with EU registration and citizens of the European Union, including Bulgaria’s vehicles, would pass through without receiving a single electronic card and won’t be required to stop and buy vignette stickers from the Road Permits and Fees Management office at the checkpoints. European citizens will have to buy vignette stickers upon entering the country, at the nearest gas stations.
There is also new organization in passing through Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint. Cars without EU registration trough three detached corridors. They will receive a single electronic card.
Cars with EU registration and citizens of the European Union will pass without a single electronic card. They will be required to stop and buy vignette stickers from the Road Permits and Fees Management office at the checkpoints.
Bulgarian citizens traveling to Turkey are advised to use Lesovo and Malko Tarnovo border checkpoints. Alternative routes of Kapitan Andreevo – Kalotina border checkpoints are the rest crossings along the Bulgarian-Serbian border: Vrashka Chuka, Bregovo, Stezimirovtsi and Oltomantsi or for Romania through Danube Bridge and to Macedonia via Gyueshevo crossing.

Traffic at the Kulata, Ilinden-Exohi and Novo Selo border checkpoints is normal for this time of the season. Traffic at the border checkpoints at the Northern border is normal, too.
