Working pensioners would become a 'sacred cow' for the company. Bosses won't have the right to fire them nevertheless the age of the employee. These regulations are provided by the amendments of the Social Security Code, prepared by the team of Social Minister Totyo Mladenov. Only professors and associate professors will have to retire obligatory at 65. Employees in all other spheres will be able to work as long as they feel well and are willing to do so. The current law in force permits employers to end the job contracts with staff members who had reached retirement age. For women the required age is 55,6 years and 34 years working experience and for the men - 60,6 and 37 years respectively.
The amendments proposed by the cabinet are aimed at stimulating the Bulgarians to work longer due to the aging of the nation and the insufficient pension funds. However, according to experts the new regulations would have the opposite effect.
