I know its very early but we have a stork in our village already Nr Yambol and I noticed it 4 days ago there is only the 1 but this must be a sign of good weather. The Martenitsa's have only just gone on sale so I won't have the wear one now. has anyone else seen any storks yet?

Your right Brian its very early and its getting a little cold so the poor thing is likely to damage its beak while searching for food as the ground will be so hard, lets hope he finds a female to keep him worm thats assuming its a male who usually arrive first I believe.

What I think actually happens is that the male White Stork typically returns to the old nest first, and then will usually pair up with the first female that comes along! This may or may not be his old mate. A male White Stork's fidelity is to its nest rather than its previous partner. As for the young birds, it takes them about 3-5 years before they begin breeding themselves, though they usually start to establish pairs and potential nesting sites a year or so before they actually begin to breed.

Someone else said that they had seen one about 2 hours ago near Yambol and I laughed it off but it's obviously quite right

Our village hosts a stork's nest on top of a pylon and every year storks return to it and hatch their babies. Storks would be very silly to return this early and in this weather. Poor things - I really hope ours don't return yet. It was bad enough seeing them with their babies during heavy rainstorms last year.

Very surprised to hear of this, I only hope that there isn't more that may have got their clocks wrong it could be disastrous the the stork population in Bulgaria.

Spotted our first yesterday and again this morning but I think it could be the same one. I would think he is now waiting for his mate to show up or do they choose one from the crowed when they arrive
