Anybody got any recommendations for rock bands in Bulgaria? Looking to try and get to some gigs when I get out there and want to know who to check out.

Also, is this forum just for Bulgarian bands or from any country? Got some recommendations I could give myself.

Well here I am - In August we have a Rockfest in our village and Buglarians and Brits come from all over (complete with tents and bikes) to hear the bands. In 2010 we had Vasko the Patch (Vaskogrupata), Magistri, Blues Traffic, Silouhette, who featured girlies with violins who were fabulous, and a local group from Gorna. Vasko is very famous in Bulgaria as are the other groups headed by Evgenii Dainov. Over a thousand folks turned up and this year its proposed to make it a 2 day event with maybe, a vintage car rally. Watch for details. I am on the Committee which has been set up as it was getting too big for just Evgenii to organise, besides playing and being a well-known political analyst in another life!!! There is a big rock following in Bulgaria with many bands. Our village is close to Veliko Turnovo in central Bulgaria but in the summer there are many gigs on the coast and of course in Sofia.

Google 'Mindyarocks' which has a bit of a weird translation but you will get the idea! Also Google Mindya and you might find our Rockfest somewhere on there and Mindya is on Facebook.
The event will be at the end of August to coincide with the big Bikefest in Veliko Turnovo. I will post when the Committee have chosen the exact date. Would be good if you could come. It would also be great if we could get a British rock band to come over. Led Zeppelin maybe??? Probably not, but you never know.

Hi again - Just done a quick search on Google for you and both Vasko the Patch and Magistrii have sites, (in English) so off you go. Maybe Google for Bulgarian rock bands will also throw something up for you. Good luck.

also FSB, their last CD is great, they put it for download on their site and you can download it legally for free there
I also like Odd Crew, was on their concert 2 mounths ago in Veliko Tarnovo... it was great XD

Will do Lisa. I wasn't sure if people on the forum would be interested so mentioned the new group on facebook. I will give you more info nearer the date. Its hard dealing with the Bulgarian Committee who seem to be moving a bit slow although there is probably lots going on in the background. The main problem is getting the big breweries to part with cash for sponsorship. Three big breweries had tents last year and did excellent business but they are hard to actually commit. Its all very Bulgarian although I think the same thing probably happens the world over for sponsorship for free events.
I do know that there will probably be a raffle for a scooter and guitar which should raise a lot of cash. More of that later!
Thanks for your interest Lisa. By the way, the Mayor will allow tabletops (provide your own table though) carboots and charity stalls so please PM me if you are interested. We already have a Brit with a homemade jewellery stall and probably a book/DVD'video table plus small Bulgarian stalls for painted tiles and kiddies stuff. Its early days yet and I still have no actual date but it will be to tie in with the week of VT Bikefest at the end of August. There will be posters soon and T-shirts (which sold out last year due to demand).

Just curious what are you correcting? I can't see any problem?

Vasko Kruptaka is the Bulgarian name for Vasko the Patch which was the translation a Bulgarian gave me.
