I have just returned from our villa. According to the hire company I use in Varna, this really applies to new customers. I have been using them for over nine years now and when I enquired about this new code the comment I received, was don't worry we have you down in our records as a VIP customer and your history is 100% clean
But I will not be shredding my old paper licence as it goes back a long way and is clear of any endorsements

Your paper portion of the licence will only have a sentimental value to you, just because it does not show any endorsements is no proof of not having any and should not be accepted by any hire company once the new system starts.

In fact even the new system is not foolproof, because someone could still have gotten endorsements during the 3 days since getting the DVLA code.

Phil, I think the so called new system started on June 8th. I can't be sure but I don't think the hire companies in Varna airport were making a big issue of it

Yes you are correct it has already started.

Just that it's been that long ago since first hearing of it, for some reason I was thinking of July (put it down to age or/and dementia)

On a recent visit to Bulgaria I found that the hire companies at Varna airport were not asking for a code

Has any forum member been asked for a code at the point of hiring a car since the new rules were introduced
