I am not very technically minded but for the last few days my computer will not configure updates, so when i log off the computer loads updates and when i log on it takes ages to configure and then says failure. :Hair:

i have changed the date to an earlier time and that did not work. dont know what else to try. is this serious, any advice welcomed.

our has just done the same thing. The computer shop said it was a virus and they squashed the computers files then reloaded windows. works perfectly now.

when you say reloaded windows, does that mean they wipe the computer clean and then load a new windows. if that is the case, i will not be able to get genuine windows 7, the computer shops put in a counterfeit one in and techno polis only sell windows if you buy a computer or a preloaded one. :Hair:

yes i think they wiped it. Im not much good with computers, sorry. You should be able to order a copy from windows direct on line. might be worth doing before it gets any worse. They do send them to bulgaria so shouldnt be too much of a problem. Then you'll be able to squash it yourself if you need to rather than having to pay a shop all the time.

The good thing with Apple Macs is all viruses are written for windows and I don't even have to bother with a virus checker on my Mac!!

I use windows 7 and I have all updates turned off, to be honest they are more trouble than they are worth

I second that , I have a laptop on Apple Mac and my desktop PC is on Linux Ubuntu,

I have turned off the updates and thats cured the problem, will see how it goes.

I understand very little about computers and tend to do as I'm told especially with updates! They are a pain in the neck because often they slow down my computer while its going on. How do I stop them???? Didn't know I could.

I know the feeling oldun I would also like to stop mine too

whats an os [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] is that the provider then im with vivacom and operate on windows 7. speed 10mb.

Can I just add that as far as I am concerned so long as you have a separate anti virus then you shouldn't have any problems without the updates however if you are using Windows defender with Win 7 then you will need to leave your updates to run in the way you already do?.

im on windows 7 and have avg security.
