| Hi Guys Someone came to look at my printer and while he was doing that he notices I no longer have Google search as my search engine but it has heen replaced by something called SafeSearch.net. He tells me I need to get rid of this as this is in the registrary and is like a hacking system and not to use any on line banking etc. He would do it but it is too deep in and would need to take the computer away, plus he would have to spend a good few hours on it and his charges are about £40 an hour. Well naturally I said no thanks but now it is worring me. I downlaoded spybot and installed that and run a check, as well as AVG and all is clear. But I cannot get rid of Safesearch the system keeps revertying back to it even if i select google or explorer as my search engine. Any ideas please |

| uninstall xpat shield this is a free vpn and that is what uses safe search. Then depending on the internet browser you are using. For internet explorer open it up click on tools and go to internet options. Go to the general tab delete safe site then go to google click on tools and use current make sure there is only google is showing. For google crome it is very similar to look through the tools and change the box. If you are using opera click on the left hand icon go to settings and preferance and do the same there click OK then come down to (depending on the operating system you are using) delet expat shield from your machine and do a custom install. Do not let it change the home page or put in the tool bars or any thing else. Just the basic operting system if you want xpat shield If you need any help send a question. Hope this helps |

| Excerllant advice Chrissybg I think that will work.If all else fails you can try taking your PC back in time by using the System Recovery. If you go to " Start" at the bottom left of your screen with XP and windows 7 will have the Windows sybmol there instead of " Start" .With XP click on all Programmes and you will see Accesories and click on it, a drop down box will appear. Choose " System Tools" and another drop down box will appear which will have " System Recovery" on it then click it! A box will appear and ask what you want to do so choose a System Restore point when your PC was working correctly and stand back and let it do it's thing. With Windows 7 just click on the Windows flag at the bottom left of your screen and you will see a box witha cursor flashing ,just type in System Restore and select it and follow the instructions. This does not always correct a problem but it's worth a try if Chrissybg solution doesn't work. |

| Thanks a million Chrissy and everyone for the info. I have removed all safesearch from the system and done a system resotre back dated but still the shows up as the main searach engine. I firefox but also went into explorer and explorer show Google as the main search engine. So would it be safe to say that explorer is ok but not to use firefox - or perhaps I can take it our and reinstall it again!! Is SafeSearch a hacking system do I NEED to be concerned it is on the system?? I cannot find it on any of the programmes |

| You can go in to fire fox and change it like you would for any other browser. Go to this link and watch the video a couple of times.
[url:1ofgcgi9]http: //www. youtube. com/watch?v=-HhMIppWTaA[/url:1ofgcgi9] then follow the steps. THIS IS SAFE The reason safe seach is on the machine is because you have down loaded some thing at some time and it is in. Doesn't seem to be a problem but lesson learned never open any thing you are unsure of. It is not a huge problem at the moment but it is a system that trys to take over the computer |

Safesearch is still there It is deep in the registrary as the chap said - He installed a hacking programme that should have lifted it but it did not touch it. My concern is is this Safesearch.net a hacking sysystem. Would I be better to use the explorer don't like it but if it is safer than Firefox at the moment. Or should I take out Firefox and reinstall, would it make a difference? |
