I catch them in the summer for my chickens, they love them! I'm a dab hand going round the garden with a large jam jar and lid. My husband calls me the big game hunter. Great fun! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Had our first Lizard in the garden today, was on our wall. Lovely green colour with a very long tail. Much bigger than the ones we used to get in Turkey.

They are pretty aren't they? Unfortunately our min dachshund sniffs them out and won't give up until she catches one. I managed to rescue the last one though, but it was minus its tail and one leg!

With what we have seen so far in the house and the garden and when I walk the dogs since we moved here 5 weeks ago, it makes me wonder what other delights will be lurking whilst I am innocently walking around. Part of our field has the fencing missing and so anything could come wandering into our pasture and munch away on whatever food is laying there to supplement their diet, maybe a herd of buffalo or the odd black bear will be waiting to welcome me when I open the door in the mornings!!

The worse one I had was the biggest cockroach you have ever seen in your life. This is not exaggerating but it was the size of my fist. It was at night and I heard this clicking sound (I was asleep and it woke me up)...turned the light on and there it was...MASSIVE. I hate killing things (normally get an old newpaper and put em outside) but I had to make an exception in this case so put a shoe on and trod on it. Horrible it was..flat as a pancake it was with loads of green stuff ozzing out. The next day, and get this, I went to clear up the mess and it was GONE. There were two legs left so it must have hobbled off somewhere. Still feel bad about it but this was soooo BIG. If anyone sees a six inch cockroach on crutches walking about give it my best. PS Mod I did say a six inch cockROACH

Very interesting picture Tony can you advise us whether this picture was taken before or after you flattened the poor insect with your pair of fluffy slippers!! It certainly looks in a bad state. Oh . . . this is from the other Itchy. |
