l seem to be having a lot of problems with my car battery.lt goes flat in a matter of 2 days in this cold weather.
Questions
1/how can l stop this from happening and what is the true cause of this happening
2/ls there any way for me to charge the battery up from the electrical house sockets.
3/l heard there are those solar panel gadgets you plug in the cars light socket to charge the battery up.Where do l get one and how much does it cost.
l am in the Elhovo area

Try covering your engine with an old blanket when your not using it. Our battery does the same thing in cold and thats what the mechanic recommended. Fingers crossed so far so good, it hasnt done it since. s

Tonyb60 can you point us to where it says "
most accidents are caused by either doing or resulting from DIY"
I would like to have a look at this and get a bigger picture of accidents around the home and in the garden against DIY.

Try looking on the web for ROSPA.

As for books I had a library full of them which I got rid of. They cost thousands of pounds and to be honest a job which I did not like. The whole point of what is being said is to healthy wealthy and wise.

Not a good idea Re: DIY &
associated problems - Page 3 794030042. If the engine is covered while the engine is still hot from use then you are creating an explosion risk. By covering an engine that is still possibly emitting fumes which are now contained could lead to an ignition and hence a bang. :Headbang:Plus if you forget its there, what a mess and a costly repair bill. Re: DIY &
associated problems - Page 3 794030042

Batteries will lose their efficiency when cold but they are designed to cope with extreme temperatures. If a battery is low in power it is usually because of cells in the structure falling apart due to age or that the battery is not being re-charged properly by the cars alternator, which would indicate that the alternator either has faulty brushes or has some other electrical problem. It could even be a case of the main vehicle earth strap being rusty and hence being a bad connection. Please stop this DIY approach to things that people know nothing about. If it aint your trade or expertise then see someone who is Re: DIY &
associated problems - Page 3 739492727. Rant over
Wow didnt want to start a row. I know apsolutely nothing about cars. It was actually a qualified english mechanic who told us to do it so not such a diy approach as you might think. but i agree if in doubt or worried about your own health n safety then get a professional. Personnally I like a bit of cheap diy. Re: DIY &

l managed to get the car going by using someones battery recharger.l also took the tops off the battery and found the top cells were not covered with liquid. But at least they were slightly wet.l filled them up with distilled water and now the battery is fully recharged.
l think l got away with not having to pay for a new battery.
The blanket idea is good.Once one covers it properly and to make sure the outer end of some of the blanket is sticking out when the bonnet is down. This will alert the driver of the blanket for it to be removed. But in my case,l sometimes am so brain dead,l even forget my wife at supermarkets,"
True"
,l actually did that once.l'll see how l get on with the blanket issue
