we have a frontera 2.5 tds,when you are driving and switch the lights on the power seems to go from the engine,as soon as you put your foot down again the engine catches up with it self,it is not the alternator,but we have had a lot of problems with the tail lights shorting out,could this have anything to do with it.

Suggestion.....Try removing the sidelight fuse(s) and see if things improve, if they do fit a new rear light feed from front to rear including the light connections and towing electrical socket.

Thank-you Bigdog for the suggestion it worked Hubby worked back from what you said and it sorted out the problem,still have a prob with back ofside shorting when headlights are on,when you break the rear light goes off (weird)but thanks helped no end.

The 'light out when braking' is normally caused by a bad earth connection, earth wire is normally brown on an European vehicle. If in doubt replace the earth wire by fixing it to good metal (not plastic or rust!) with a self tapping screw.
