| Wish I'd been able to come along and have a look. We're quite interested in modern timber buildings and have 2 extensions made from timber, highly insulated, cheaper than brick and much warmer. One day we might even build a whole house that way!
Hope your open days were successful. |

| Thanks Suzee, we had a great response and the newspaper in Rousse (ytpo) did a full page on us in Mondays paper as the whole concept of an open house I think is new in these parts and they could not believe that for the price of an apartment they could get a modern house,If you are ever in the area give us a shout as we are always building new homes hopefully soon in VT,I know we are building one in Sofia in the summer. |

In the crisis build houses with wooden frame
November 29, 2010 16:32:29
Continued for over two years of economic crisis hit particularly hard construction, but building houses with wood construction is gaining momentum. According to partner in the Bulgarian - Irish firm Global Strakchars Boris Goncharov, contracts in recent months even increase. his first house the company raised in 2008 and since then Basarbovo has already built seven such sites. The construction is wood, but outside the building looks like a plastered solid construction. Use familiar technology in the world " Timber frame construction" , adapted to Bulgarian conditions. The main advantage of this type of houses is - low price - rough construction can come home to 200 leva square and all the finishing work - laminate flooring, woodwork and so long to switch from 350 to 400 euros - the price at which ponelkite currently sold in the suburbs of Ruse. On Saturday and Sunday Global Strakchars presented another site ready - two-storey house with an area of 170 square in Basarbovo offered price of 80,000 euros to the land and for which there are already two candidates. So far the company has built seven such sites, and has orders for two more. The main advantage of wooden houses is - good insulation, allowing for significant energy savings for heating in winter and cool in summer. Timber is imported from Sweden dried and standardized. The inner wall of the house is built of wooden bearing structure and outer - of brick, stone or block, forming a finished appearance, which takes all weather changes. The tree is covered with a membrane paropropuskliva of Dupont, which allows the wood to breathe, but stops moisture. Between the inner and outer wall forms an air " cushion" which acts as a heat insulator. Thus the inner part of the house is completely isolated from the outside, making it much - easy to heat and can reduce heating bills by 50%. Energy needed to reach a certain temperature in a brick or concrete house is seven times - more than the energy needed for heating a house with wooden structure, according to Global Strakchars. Therefore this technology is widespread in the construction of houses in Scandinavia, Northern Canada, Scotland or Northern Siberia, where the climate is extremely harsh. The outer wall is decorated according to customer preferences and did not differ in anything from any other house. Wooden panels are factory produced, ensuring accuracy in production and deviations are minimized under high scrutiny away from the vagaries of weather. Wooden panels are rapidly erected and installed in the foundation along with a building roof can be built within a few days. This allows workers to continue work in sheltered conditions in the building and work on the exterior cladding and the completion of the roof. As a result the house can be ready for several weeks, but not as usual for months. |

| Thanks for posting the translation,as you say it is not perfect but tells the story,I thought I could have downloaded the page from the paper complete with photos but this is great. I see you are from Canada so you know exactly what type of houses we are building,A lot of people in Bulgaria get afraid when they hear wooden house as they think that it is some sort of bunglow built on top of the ground but if you had seen some of the reactions when they came to see the house on the open days they were completly amazed at the finishes and style of the house.
