| As an EX Truck Driver I regularly had to get Euro's on board the Ferry, however, due to the daily difference in the Rates, DFDS and P& O are 2 I know that definitely have their vending machines set to accept £1.00 coins but dont refund £1.00 if you decide to reject the coins after inserting them. For example, the Euro v Sterling rate maybe £1.00 = 1.20 euros So by inserting £1.00 into their soft drink machine, then selecting Reject, the machine will give you 1 euro & 50 cents change instead of your £1.00 coin, a much better exchange rate indeed |

If they aint realised in 6 years that I know of then I doubt their that bothered lol considering their rip off prices on board I Dont think its so much an error, just a way of extorting more money out of passengers, they expect customers to pay in Euros (1.50 per can of pop) what they dont expect is (And not many folk think of it) is English money being used and the transaction cancelled before completion, its just greed on their part wanting to extract money of any denomination otherwise they would only accept Euro or Pound not both. 1 Euro 50 cents for a can of coke, or £1.00 coin is still pretty high considering you cant exactly nip next door to another shop in the middle of the English Channel Lol setting a mechanism up to reimburse the coin just inserted is unviable as its already registered as payment recieved, and as the machine is set up as Euro as the main currency it can only handle refunds in that currency, they normally rely on customers returning from Europe using their unused euros hence the higher exchange rate, so using Euros the can of pop that is £1.00 in English is actually about £1.22 in Euro at todays exchange rate, by rejecting the coin and taking a refund the machine currently gives you 22p more than you inserted |
