Humanic Enters Bulgaria with Stores in Sofia

Humanic, an international chain of shoe stores, will open in March its first two shops in Bulgaria, offering shoes and bags and accessories priced from BGN 40 to BGN 200.

The company is a subsidiary of Leder und Schuh with its headquarters in Graz. In 1907, the “American Shoe House Humanic"
opened its first two stores in Vienna, on Kärntnerring 6, opposite the famous Hotel Bristol, and in Mariahilferstraße 92, opposite Hotel Palace.

Today Humanic is trading in shoes and stylish accessories and appears on the market in ten European countries.

The company owns 340 stores across Europe, which makes it one of the top ten biggest players in the shoe sector. Its last year's turnover totaled EUR 500 M, while its pay roll includes 3500.

Shoe chain Humanic plans 3 Bulgarian stores in 2010

Footwear retailer Humanic, part of Austrian concern Leder & Schuh, will cut the ribbon on its three flagship Bulgarian stores in 2010, the company said yesterday.

Two of the shops will be housed by Serdica Center and The Mall shopping malls currently under construction in Sofia, while the third one will be accommodated by Grand Mall in the northern Black Sea city of Varna.

“Our plans for Bulgarian expansion depend on the performance of our first shops,” said Ventsislav Stefanov, Humanic’s commercial director for Bulgaria.

In Bulgaria, Humanic will offer footwear under the brands Geox, S’Oliver, Converse and Vans, among others, as well as own brands.

Leder & Schuh, which is Europe’s sixth largest shoe retailer, includes also the chains Shoe4You, Jello, Corti and Dominici. For 2009, the company generated revenue to the tune of EUR 500 million at its 346 stores in 11 countries.

Over the past two years, competition among shoe chains in Bulgaria heated up. In 2009, the market welcomed German company Deichmann, which has built a four-strong store network in Bulgaria. In March, it plans to open its first Sofia store, which will be located in Serdica Center. Seven more shops should pop up by the end of the year.

Last month, Sofia also welcomed the maiden shop of Ara Shoes.
