Freshly sworn in policeman fined for parking in pedestrian zone
A 20-years old police officer from the central Bulgarian town of Kazanluk, suffered the strength of the law a few hours after he had been sworn in and pledged to follow the policemen's code of ethics, Bulgarian-language daily 24 Chassa said on January 14 2010.
A couple of hours after his inauguration ceremony the young policemen parked his personal car in a central pedestrian zone in clear violation of traffic rules. To get to his parking spot, he had also broken a sign banning any vehicles in the area which had been declared by the city hall as an "
Eco Zone"
.
To make sure that people know that he was working for the police, the young policeman left his lollipop with the sign Interior Ministry and his police hat inside the vehicle.
Leaving police signs inside vehicles is a popular way for Bulgarian policemen to indicate that they are "
on the job,"
hoping that this might spare them a ticket or two.
However, outraged by the actions of the newly-sworn in police officer, local residents tipped off traffic police who were quick to react and give their young colleague a ticket.
