First topic message reminder :

Getting real fed up with this lark now, everytime we have to disconnect the gas bottle regulator from the gas hob we seem to have a problem fitting it back on again as the gas gets through than cuts out. We have bought 7 regulators so far - Any idea whats going wrong. We bought a Turkish one on Sat it but it would not fit the bottle so have to go back into town again to get another one.  These are the regulators

On one type of gas bottle where the regulator fitted to a nozzle from the side of the neck and had a a circular stop cock valve on the top of the neck, you just took it outside with the regulator removed then turned the stop cock valve and it released the gas via the nozzle where the regulator would have been attached. Safe as long as the nozzle is facing away from you.

The other where there was no stop cock only the valve on top he used a small "valve pressure relief tool", I never did this as it was easier exchanging ours to the ones with valves on top, I like things simple like me!

Hope that explains things, I have never filled a gas bottle here but I would presume the people filling them would know about this.

Hi Trev
Thanks for the information. I would imagine that the majority of us have the regulator without the stop valve? so personally I would advise erring on the side of safety and not attempting anything that does not have the stop cock, take to a gas specialist or get new IMHO.

Ever since I had the problem with the water I've purged mine by hanging the bottle upside down under my walnut tree...I clamp a short section of hose to the regulator and turn it on. Seems to work fine for me...and I know that when the girl fills the bottle, I'm getting gas and not some shonky mix!

OK good news we took the gas bottle, the regulator and hose tube and also the gas hob into the chap in the shop as he suggested. The tested the regulator and the bottle and said no problem there. Then he changed the new hose tube and it was loose and it was Turkish and not Bulgarian. He plugged it in to and lit the hob burners and they all came on and low and behold they stayed on. We turned it off left it a minute and turned it back on again and it worked. Brought it home and has been working since. So all in all it was the hose tube too loose from the regulator side.
