What sort of things do you remember from the past good or bad that effected your daily life or your family in someway and is it better now or was it better then? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I remember us all sitting at the table for meals this is a thing of the past in most homes now, I insist on everyone sitting at the table and no tv or phones. The grandchildren love coming to ours as we all talk over dinnerso my 8year old grand daughter tells me.

Sunday dinner at my Nan and Grandad's was an experience not to be forgotten. Sat down at a green baize table cloth with the cuckoo clock sounding every hour and the cuckoo making an appearance. Sunday dinner consisted of roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, followed by homemade rice pudding with nutmeg on the top and of course followed by a cup of tea with Rich Tea Fingers. Lovely. Then the playing cards would come out and my Grandad would attempt to teach me how to play Crib! No TV, the toilet had toilet paper on good days and a copy of the News of the World torn into squares and placed on a nail on bad days. We then drove home in my Dad's 1939 Rover 14 with no synchromesh on the clutch, there was no antifreeze then and an old dressing gown was put over the engine at night time during the Winter.

I can remember the days before hot hatches and Harley B****y Davidsons. These days everyone under 35 seems to have one or the other. Brrrummm, Brrrummmm! Thanks for allowing me to get that one off my chest. There's plenty more, but I don't want to come across as a grumpy old git.

Interludes, remember them? That was when the television industry (a.k.a. the BBC) didn't fill every waking minute (and many sleeping ones) with inane drivel and repetition. My favourite used to be the potters wheel. Nowadays it would be the desert island. Bring back interludes! Cut the Cr*p!

| You guys were spoilt...I was nearly 13 when I first saw a telly...Black and White screen, two channels and our antenna was almost 30 ft high..above the roof!
Weekdays, the telecast started at 2pm and finished with the National Anthem at 10pm. Saturdays started at midday and lasted until midnight...on the dot (tough luck if it was halfway through a program).
Our family car back then was a 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe...ten bobs worth of petrol used to last us more than a month!!
