Hi Guys
Well, we - (myself-being Mick, Bev, Tom &
Dot) all ventured to Silistra for the garden Party on Saturday and are really glad we made the decision to do so.
This was our first time visiting the Orphanage so didn't really know what to expect. On the day, we met some lovely, kind and friendly people in Silistra. This kindness started with a Police escort by the local bobbies who said "
follow them"
when we asked for directions from the town centre after our directions didn't tally with Bernie's directions!!!! On our arrival at the Orphanage we were greeted by both Bernie and Dougie - two really remarkable people who it is apparent to see give so much of their time and effort to the Orphanage and the children - hats off to you two - it was a pleasure to meet you both
We arrived and straight away it was plain to see that many people had donated their time and a lot more to make this day the success it turned out to be. We walked into the grounds where book stalls, kids painting, adopt a teddy bear, guess how many sweets in a jar (I was robbed), cake stalls, drinks stalls and various others were in full swing - a pleasure to see.
Throughout the day, we purchased various items from the stalls, bought tickets for the raffles and talked to many different people.
We purchased drinks and cakes for some of the children and it was a pleasure to talk to some of them (not that they understood), apart from some broken words and sign language.
The children of the Orphanage put on a great display of singing, dancing and other acts with the aid of a few others and it was very enjoyable to watch there faces as they participated.
We were also entertained to "
Jock"
the bag pipes player who played a few well known songs and he was watched by some of the children who looked on intrigued - was it the pipes or those hairy legs in a skirt???
At lunchtime, we were supplied with a bbq style meal to purchase and once again, hats off to everybody involved in the food. The burgers and sausages (some said were deer, some said ostrich) - whichever, they were bloomin tasty!!!! Big round of applause as I say, the food was excellent and the staff the same
In the afternoon, one of the highlights was watching Bernie &
Dougie giving out to the Children (of various ages) the many gifts, toys, clothes, shoes, etc, to the children. Me personally thought this would be like a rugby scrum at Twickenham, how wrong I was - the children reacted brilliantly just taking things and you could see the joy and appreciation on their faces - brilliant to see and witness!!!
Later on there was the raffle of many things to all who had bought tickets - (great items to be won by the way) - I was robbed again.!!!
After that there was an auction of some really good donated items as well - Tom will remember that with fondness (Big Kid) - Dot has now become an X-Box Widow!!!!
One of the last things we saw was Dougie and Bernie giving out - (throwing), many, many, small wrapped "
personal gifts"
to the children, haha - now this was like a scrum at Twickenham - but all done in good fun. The children who had the baggiest t-shirts on were glad of their choice of clothing for the day - they could carry the most items in their big t-shirts!!!
In brief, Bernie &
Dougie, you are two very special people and we thoroughly enjoyed our day
To yourselves and all the others involved, a BIG WELL DONE
We left, having taken many thoughts and memories for the day - a big Thank You.
Best wishes,
Tom &
