| The winters here in bulgaria are never the same, first winter. january 2008 the snow arrived and what a shock 3 metres, bitterly cold, and completely stuck in the house for a month, yet mid february we were on albena beach having picnics. second winter. late january the snow arrived and well into february, bitterly cold, so cold going to the laundry room was out of the question. ice was on the inside windows. third winter.. again january the snow arrived, february ok. booked a flight home on the 15th of march, on the 12th of march the snow arrived big style, there was little chance of getting that flight as varna had no morning flights, we got someone to drive us a day early and rebook a flight. the journey was awful and not safe really, in retrospect that journey should not have happened too dangerous fourth winter.....snow arrives mid december causing problems with the christmas preperations, january a little snow but nothing to cause problems and nothing since, its mild sunny and lovely. so when is the snow coming anyone know. im just about to book a flight home the end of march, but the uncertainty of winters here makes one worry. what is your experience of winters in bulgaria. |

Hopefully, that's it for this year as far as snow goes this year - doesn't look as if we'll get anything substantial now. I think 2009/2010 was pretty bad, but 2007/2008 was exceptionally bad. Our first winter 2004/2005 was probably the worst, though. Looks as if the weather is changing the world over and BG seems to be going back to mild winters. Will be interesting to see what the summer is like this year. Regards, George. |

Regards, George. Must sort of agree with you both on this. But this sort of change in weather patterns has happened over and over again through the generations. In the UK in 1987 in SE England there was a huricane, 1988 a small Tornedo :m4: both of which have never happened again. Around the same period South Eastern Rail could not operate a service from Rochester to Swanley for over a week because snow had blocked the line :C:Best to take things one step at a time. |

| Good topic I would like to hear from more who live in Bulgaria about the weather its a very important factor when considering a move, no matter how much research anyone does about the weather the only real way is to hear it from the people who live there so come on lets have it!!!! |

Winters here are proper winters. Summers here are proper summers. There's usually a short spring and short autumn. It beats the UK weather into a cocked hat as we can be pretty much assured of a great summer no matter what the winters are like. Having said that, we feel that winters here are better than UK. Yes, they're much, much colder and the snow is normally far greater than UK, but you get periods like the last week or so. Daytime temps of +20 c and rarely get the prolonged grey, damp, depressing stuff. |

What I mean is as there is not the damp factor it does not nip at the cheeks so much. Tony |

| be prepared is the answer, stock up well with food and provisions, if you need medication make sure you have enough for a month. when the snow arrives its fast and furious and in hours you can be blocked in. the local shops will run out of stock due to no deliveries and this may be weeks not days, your bottled water will freeze and takes 2 days to defrost, last year my toothpaste froze :LMHO:the electric will certainly go, have back up, my only concern when it is severe is no one would get to you as the roads are blocked, but dont be put off, when prepared the winters are spectacular, but not happened this year, so far. but worth it as the summers are long. |

| Winter 2004/2005 was no problem in Dobrich - snow, yes, but entirely passable. |
