Marks & Spencer Leaving 5 SEE Countries

UK retailer Marks & Spencer has announced it is pulling out of Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.

M&S has 12 stores (employing 106 people) in these five Southeastern European countries, three of them in Bulgaria.

The goal is to "firmly focus" on "successful businesses in Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary," British media outlets quote an M&S spokesperson as saying. New stores will be launched in the Czech Republic and Poland over the next two years.

The closure in the countries affected is set to begin in January.

To be quite honest, I had no idea that M+S even had stores here...not that shopping is a favourite activity of mine.

We went into Penny in Pavlikeni on Monday and the store was really grim with the refrigerated section completely empty and not even large bottles of water to purchase. It is sad for the staff and for all those of us that go to Pav for our food shopping. Because of the general lack of produce being sold there we will not be going back to Penny, sob, sob!

our Penny closed the first monday of October...really missing it
