Many of you will have noticed the phrase "
code orange"
or "
code yellow"
creeping into the Bulgarian weather forecasts, in reference to severe weather. They come from thie Bulgarian National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH):

Tomorrow (Thursday) the South East is code ORANGE for strong winds, heavy snowfall (up to 20 centimetres) and blizzard conditions, from midday onwards.

thats clever, just had a look and our area is green for today, no worries.

Thats very clever Keith and thank you I have always wondered what they mean when they say code orange etc now I know maybe ask a mod to make this a sticky as I think this could be useful and its not obvious where it is so will eventually get lost further down the forum list

and when looking at today no problems, when looking at tomorrow its in bulgarian. how do you change this. this will be so useful over the coming winter.

Today will always be translated, it's the way Google translate works, unfortunately. If you use Google 'Chrome' it translates all the pages automatically.

Bulgaria under Code Yellow over Winter Weather

All regions of Bulgaria are under code yellow Monday over the falling snow, the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences informs.

Code yellow means dangerous natural events, but without a threat to the population.

The most significant snow fall is expected in eastern and northern Bulgaria.

All cross-border check points are open for traffic, however, automobiles using the ones at Ilinden and Zlatograd at the Greek border are required to have tire chains.

Police report heavy traffic on the E-79 road to the Kulata cross-border point between Bulgaria and Greece and a number of traffic incidents.

Meanwhile, the Sofia City Hall informed the cleaning contractor companies have treated all roads in the capital used by public transportation vehicles.
