Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov wants to fine Members of Parliament who left work to attend a party after being promised "
free expensive mobile phones"
, Bulgarian National Television reported on December 8 2010.

The Parliamentary Ethical Committee of Parliament has decided that on December 9, the MPs "
deceived"
by the "
media experiment"
which had promised them "
very expensive mobile phones for free"
will each be fined half a month's salary.

Borissov made the statement late on December 8 when he attended a ceremony welcoming Bulgarian firefighters back from Israel.

Borissov asked the reporter, "
Tell me, what were they doing there (at the party)?"


BNT reporter replied: "
Well, the President had told them that..."


At which point Borissov, visibly annoyed by the reporter's answer, said:

"
The President? He should stop using double standards. We (GERB) impose severe penalties on our MPs for the smallest deviation from their duties. People have been removed from office for being slack or absent from their post for one hour"

Look at the President's best friend – Ahmed Dogan (leader of the Turkish led party Movement for Rights and Freedoms). He never shows up in parliament – ever. Have you heard the President complain once in the past eight years that most MPs from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and MRF don't brother to come to work at all? Ever? Are you talking to me about the President? This is a disgrace,"
Borissov said
