What is Skype?
Skype lets you make free calls over the internet to anyone else who also has the service. It is free and easy to download and use, and it works with most computers. Skype offers free global telephony and unlimited voice calls with its next-generation peer-to-peer software.


How can I add users to my Skype account?
You can add users to your Skype account by simply clicking on the links found when either viewing a topic or viewing a registered users profile. The icon shown will change depending on the users status on Skype when viewing a topic.

What does the profile button/link do?
It allows a user to perform a multitude of functions with you via Skype. The user will be able to Add you as a contact, send you a file, send you a voicemail, check your information at skype, make a call or make a chat.

Further to the addition of Skype

Something that Skype does not seem to push for expats is their local number service, basically in my case, I paid Skype £40 for the 12 month contract, in return I have an 0191 telephone number (Newcastle upon Tyne) the calls are diverted through the internet to my PC in Bulgaria, however, it makes no difference where abouts in the world you are, if your connected to the internet you can recieve the calls.

The beauty of this service is that relatives without a computer or skype account can contact us by landline for the price of a local rate call, 0.007p per minute if calling from the 0191 Area code, obviously if calling from outside the area then the national rate applies which I believe is around 4p per minute.

Only calls from a landline in the UK can be made, you cant make cheap rate calls from Bulgaria to the UK but its handy if you have a lot of relatives living in one area code

Skype is currently a free software that allows you to have free video calls from PC to PC or landline calls to your pc (I currently say free as I hear they are planning on charging a small fee in the near future)

Its a great medium for keeping in touch with family and of course with it being free it makes it even better

You need a microphone so you can speak however, most webcams have these built in nowadays the same as Laptops, the webcam is not needed unless of course you want video calls, you can talk to any other skype member free of charge any time day or night if they are online.

I've been using Skype for around 7 or 8 years now, as I had a business dealing with importing timers from China that I'd designed, it was perfect for face to face chats with the shipping agents and manufacturers etc and of course being free it saved a fortune on long telephone calls to Hong Kong.

I love skype!!!!! but not as much as i love this forum

I never used Skype before but I installed it just to test it out on here and, TBH, I find the whole thing a bit of a potch. I suppose if you're using it for the phone calls fair enough but as far as IM is concerned I prefer messenger.

I think most people use to phone across Europ for free with no time limit, and no interruptions, and I find it a lot more private than IM ? no one keeps badgering you to be added or similar :shocked1:just my experience
