The construction of a new outdoor swimming complex begains in Burgas.

The swimming complex will be built over an old pool that was located on the very same spot behind the domes of the colorful exhibition “Flora”. For decades, the existing water supply was used to water the various plants in the park.

“This ridiculous practice will come to an end and two swimming pools will be created – one 50 m. and a shallower one – 20 m., for beginner swimmers. They will have a warm up installation that works on gas. This will allow the use of the pools 10 months per year, and during a mild winter – for the whole year”, said the mayor of the municipality of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov. He and his vice-mayor of construction Kostadin Markov checked on the construction site of the new swimming complex.

There will be service buildings with changing rooms, bathrooms, coach offices and a cafe within the complex. The project willl be the work of a local company from Burgas. The funding will be 1 350 000 leva.

Project for New Pedestrian Area in Burgas Completed
Tuesday, 13 October 2009
Author: Radostin Rachev

Today, October 13th, the first phase of the project for reconstruction, development and landscaping of central pedestrian area in town was presented. It envisages complete reconstruction of the main “Alexandrovska” street – from “Troykata” to “Trsaritsa Yoana” square /next to the railway station/. Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, deputy mayor of Construction Kostadin Markov, chief architect Vesselina Ilieva and representatives of the company – executor of the projects presented the project.

Mayor Dimitar Nikolov announced, that the Municipality has followed its commitment to develop a project for a new pedestrian area and underground water supply facilities. He also added, that the municipality will apply for financing by the OP “Regional Development” and in case of approval, its execution will start at the beginning of next summer.

During the meeting mayor Nikolov reminded that in regard with this project owners of properties on the “Alexandrovska” and “Bogoridi” streets were obliged to renovate their buildings’ facades this spring.

“It is good news, that the facades of 8 out of the 10 old and dangerous buildings have already been renovated”, said Nikolov and added, that the repair of the other two buildings will soon be completed.

Mayor also told, that the project will be a subject of public discussion by all interested parties.

During the meeting it was revealed that the project will have three phases of execution – “Alexandrovska” and neighbouring streets, “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” and “Vasil Aprilov” and “Bogoridi” Blvd.

An attractive composition with dolphins will add special charm and atmosphere to the new pedestrian area. Effective landscaping, benches and a fountain will add beauty to the plastic arts in the intersect between “Alexandrovska” and “Graf Igrantiev” streets. There will be a second fountain – on the crossing between “Alexandrovska” and “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” Streets. The area from the garden near the Clock to the new fountain will be developed as Alley of fame.

The project envisages preserving of existing plants and enrichment with new decorative plants and hanging pots with flowers.

The asphalt will be replaced with coloured tiles with in-built attractive lighting. The old benches, dust bins and ash trays will be replaced with new ones and kiosks will have common appearance.

Access to administrative buildings for people with disabilities will be provided and advertisement tables will be adapted for people with visual disabilities.

Great idea Ashley that would let all know whats going on and where? I seen this tried on other sites but to be honest it always ends up off topic or people arguing about what is and what isn't ? a bit like kids in a playground :Funny: so I think if this forum continues in the format it is I for one think that Regional new would be very useful [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
