Countdown to Sonisphere Festival in Sofia 2010

If you are are a fan of metal music – thrash metal in particular – then you should relish the arrival of the Big Four in Sofia this summer – as well as a few other bands.

Some of the biggest names in metal – Metallica, Slayer, Manowar, Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Mastodon, Anthrax, Rammstein and Stone Sour – have been confirmed to play in the Sofia Rocks Festival, part of the Sonisphere Festivals series, in Sofia on June 22-23.

The organisers have already confirmed the Bulgarian bands performing in the festival. Bastardolomey will warm up Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax, whereas Shre4 will perform on the second day, June 23, to be headlined by Rammstein.

Bastardolomey was formed in 2007 by Dimitar Vassilev. Their first single was Cheap Thrill while their first record in 2009 was entitled Plastic Pig Society.

Skre4 are considerably older, formed in 1998, in the northern Bulgarian town of Pleven, under the name Road Crew. They have released two albums to date, Spe4 and Made in China.

Metallica are headliners on June 22 with Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax all featured as support. This will be the third time Metallica perform in Bulgaria, selling out the full capacity Vassil Levski stadium on their own in the summer of 2009.

Rammstein will headline day two, with Alice in Chains, Mastodon and Stone Sour all in support for June 23.

On both days, concerts will begin at 5pm. One-day events are priced at 59 to 99 leva in the stands, 79 leva for the stadium's pitch and 119 leva in front of the stage.

Bulgaria Prepares for Trash Metal Gig with Metallica, Rammstein

ome of the world’s most emblematic metal and rock bands including Metallica and Rammstein are going to perform in Bulgaria’s capital during the Sofia Rocks 2010 Sonisphere Festival.

The music event organized by Balkan Entertainment and Marcel Avram will take place on June 22-23, 2010, on the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia.

The teams of the top metal bands are arriving in the city on Friday in order to start building the stage, announced the organizers.

Top trash metal bands Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax will perform together on the first day of the Sofia Rocks fest.

The four groups have come together for the first time for a tour starting with a concert in Poland Thursday night which attracted 100 000 people, including 5 000 from the UK. Before coming to Bulgaria on June 22, the trash bands will rock Switzerland and the Czech Republic, and will also perform in Romania, Turkey, and Greece after their Sofia gig.

Only the Sofia concert, however, will be shot and shown live in movie theaters around the world, which is why the organizers are urging all Bulgarian fans to come together in order to contribute to an unforgettable music event.

The second day of the Sonisphere Festival will be no less exciting with emblematic German group Rammstein together with Manowar, Alice in Chains, and Stone Sour.

Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Alice Cooper, Apocalyptica and Mastodon will participate in the second edition of Sonisphere Festival in Bulgaria.

The organizers from Balkan Entertainment announced Thursday that this year, the festival will be held only one day – June 21. It will be staged at the hippodrome in the town of Bankya, 10 km west of Sofia.

"
The hippodrome does not have a limit. We expect about 30 000 people to visit the festival and 5000 of them will be able to sit,"
said Petar Petrov from Balkan Entertainment.

The venue will be separated and specifically designed with stands and areas for the festival. The preparation begins March 15 with construction of the parking and levelling of the ground.

Catering, chemical toilets, additional buses and shuttles will also be provided for the visitors of the festival.

Tickets will cost between BGN 90 and BGN 150 and are already on sale.

Last year, Sonisphere Festival featured Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. The DVD and Blue-ray entitled "

British onslaught at Sonisphere, with Judas Priest, Saxon and Whitesnake set to rock in Bankya

British heavy metal legends Judas Priest along with Saxon and Whitesnake will perform in Bulgaria on July 8 as part of the Sonisphere Festival.

Judas Priest, who will headline the festival, will be coming to Bulgaria one last time as part of their Epitaph World Tour

Initially, Judas Priest and Whitesnake were booked to play at Akedemik Stadium in Sofia on July 8, but the venue has been changed and now they will perform at the National Hippodrome in Bankya, where Iron Maiden will headline the Sonisphere Festival on June 21.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale from March 31, and the first 1000 tickets will have promotional prices ranging from 59 leva for standing, 69 leva for seating allocation, 79 leva for the pit, and also 79 leva for seating allocation close to the stage. The promotional batch will be available at Eventim.bg

For the Iron Maiden show on June 21, also featuring Slipknot, Alice Cooper, Mastodon and Apocalyptica, tickets cost from 90 leva for the pit and 120-150 leva for seating allocation, while the "
fan zone"
tickets are priced at 150 leva.

It is understood that Bulgarian state rail company BDZ will provide specially designated trains for fans to and from both days of the festival. More details will be made available later.

For camping, the price is 20 leva, including tents or caravans.

Judas Priest announced on December 7 2010 that their Epitaph World Tour would be the band's farewell tour. According to reports, the band will tour with Epitaph until 2012.

"
We're not the first band to say farewell, it's just the way everyone comes to at some point and we're gonna say a few more things early next year, so I think the main thing that we just want to ask everybody to consider is don't be sad about this, start celebrating and rejoicing over all the great things we've done in Judas Priest"
Rob Halford said about the band's impending retirement for Road Runner Records.

Sonisphere Bulgaria Cancelled, Sofia Rocks Changes Venues

The second edition of Sonisphere Bulgaria, set for June 21 and featuring Iron Maiden, Slipknot and Alice Cooper, has been cancelled by the local promoter.

"
Due to reasons not in the control of Balkan Entertainment and after instructions of the owner of the license of the Sonisphere Festival in Bulgaria, we announce that the festival is cancelled,"
reads the statement of organizers Balkan Entertainment.

Rumours to that effect started to circulate last week, when Balkan Entertainment changed the venue to another festival, Sofia Rocks, featuring Judas Priest and Whitesnake.

The initial venue for both Sonisphere and Sofia Rocks was set to be a National Hippodrome in Bankya, where facilities for concerts - such as stage and stands - were yet to be constructed.

Sofia Rocks, scheduled for July 8, has been now moved to the People's Army (CSKA) Stadium in Borisova Gradina, down town Sofia.

Sonisphere Bulgaria 2011 was to include heavy metal legends Iron Maiden as headlines, as well as American nu metal band Slipknot with a full set, supported by Alice Cooper, US metallers Mastodon, and Finnish cello metallists Apocalyptica.

The first edition of Sonisphere Bulgaria in 2010 was extremely successful. Its first day featured the "
Big Four"
of thrash metal - Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax - and was later officially issued on DVD. The second day included US metal warriors Manowar and German industrial heroes Rammstein.

Sofia Rocks 2011, set for July 8, will feature Judas Priest (on their farewell tour) and Whitesnake as co-headline's, supported by Saxon, Slade and Mike &
the Mechanics.
