Italy's Mapei to Build New Plant in Bulgaria's Russe
The Milan-based international company Mapei has announced plans for building a new plant for dry construction mixtures in Bulgaria as part of its expansion here.
Mapei acquired from Orgachim, a Bulgarian company specializing in the manufacture of varnishes and paints, more than 15 000 square meters in area at the end of December last year in a EUR 3,6 M deal.
“Within a few months, we will build a new plant, whose production will target the Bulgarian and Romanian market,†Plamen Petrov, Mapei representative for Bulgaria said, as cited by local Standart daily.
The Italian company has denied reports that it plans the acquisition of Russe-based Orgachim.
Giorgio Squinzi, owner of Mapei, commented that the company aims to turn into a market leader in Bulgaria in the short term.
In his words the company has chosen the Danube town of Russe because of its good transport connections, which will make possible the transport of the production inside the country and to Romania, Russia and the European Union.
According to him the demand for Mapei production on the markets of Bulgaria and southern Romania predetermined the company investments in Russe.
Mapei Group currently owns 56 production plants in 25 countries around the world. Mapei has already had a presence in Bulgaria for a long time through several local distributors.
