We have taken measure along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast over bird flu: doctor 27 January 2015 FOCUS News Agency
"
You know Bulgaria implements programmes for monitoring the disease of bird flu in which the measures for monitoring domestic birds and wild birds are divided,"
said Dr Pencho Kamenov, head of the Healthcare of Animals in Bulgaria directorate, speaking at an extraordinary press conference, FOCUS News Agency reported.
A dead pelican found in the region of coastal Burgas had bird flu, tests showed, it was announced earlier.
"
A lab analysis is usually prepared on wild birds that died in nature – for this reason it was ascertained the pelican had the H5N1 virus,"
Dr Kamenov said further.
In his words, industrial farms should implemented tighter security measures, while the owners of domestic fowl should not let birds walk to a water basin where they could become infected with the virus.
According to Dr Pencho Kamenov, attention has been concentrated on this problem since the beginning of the year, when bird flu was discovered in Western Europe.
"
So, we continue all the monitoring measures. We have implemented measures along the entire Black Sea coast. Hunting and markets on these territories have been banned. Movement and the introduction of bio security measures have been laid emphasis, [this should be] on the part of owners of [certain] sites,"
Pencho Kamenov stated.
