| Can anyone give me a guide price on window shutters supplied & installed. Electric & Manual?
(the type that go over the exterior windows for added security) |

| I think it will depend on the size, quality and the region along with the fitter/supplier. |

| Yes I can appreciate that, I wasn't hoping for a definite price, just a guideline price for standard size windows or perhaps a user who had them installed recently.
At least to give me an idea of if it will be closer to €1k or €10k |

| Hi Bigneacy
We had 9 brown metal and plastic coating shutters units fitted about 3 years ago from a small family run company in Silistra they go all over the place - The were just fantastic nothing was too much trouble for them. We had to pay the bulk up front as they had to be orderd from the factory in Sofia took 10 days to make and deliver and a morning to fit - father and son came to do that. Cost was around £800 whis was pretty fantastic. If you need their info let me know and I will send you a pm. See photos below

| Thanks very much oddball - now I have a rough idea to go on. They look great - make the place look really secure! And what a fantastic price too. Silistra is not a world away from me here in South Ruse Province. If you could send me their details that'd be really great, I think we'll look to get them done over the next few months before we put in any decent furniture or TVs or the likes, after the major reno. projects are done. |

Yes BIG thanks also for the information oddball, certainly a lot cheaper than I was thinking of, even if it was a couple of years ago. Just one question out of curiosity, how do you open and close them, is it with a winding rod on the inside? Although I am assuming they are not electric, but none the less |

| is there any evidance that these shutter put off burglers. I read bernie had been broken in to. Do shutters say we are out and we have thing to take in side? rather like a burglar alarm. I ask because i am interested in shutters i think they could be good even when one is home when the snow falls heavy they are another form of insulation |

| I'm not sure if correct but didn't Bernie say they got in through the roof by removing some of the tiles!
The problem and you are quite right, are you saying you have something of value or just don't want to go through all the hassle of a break-in especially if there is nothing worth taking.
Damned if you do, or damned if you don't. |

Damned if you do, or damned if you don't. Hi Guys Yes indeed, we have the shutters for a few reasons one is mainly for security, two is if we want the windows open wide all night we can put the shutters down and they keep the rooms cool during the day. When we had the attempted break in they could only get the shutters up a little bit about 6" before it locked. We did not have locks on then. But they still managed to crack the window but could no get the shutter pass the 6" Now we lock them down. They eventually managed to open a metal door with 10 locks but of course as soon as they pushed the door open the alarm went off. Last time they bypassed the shutters and new steel door and went onto the roof taking off the tiles but again could not get past the wood ceilings, but left the roof tiles off and when it rained the water got through the wood and ruined the bedroom - Little beggers. The shutters are a very good idea we always use them at night too. It really would not matter what you had, if they know the house is belong to the British, Dutch or Belgium etc they will always target it. Our friends say 'this is the way of life in Bulgaria and as your house looks good on outside they want to see what is in the inside' You just can't win |

| no matter what security you have, if they are determined enough, they will get in. :Headbang:however, the more security you have, will deter the opportunist thief who just wants to grab small items with a quick resale. they will be unlikely to target a well secured property and look for an easier option. I dont have shutters but i do have grills, again it is a put off. the window grills are fitted inside, so they would have to break the window first and that would set the alarm off, they also open for escape reason. both are deterrents. at the end of the day insurance is your only protection as sad as that is. |
