Tried banks to get some Romanian Leu but it is a closed currency is the term that used by them so no Leu!
So I am at this time at loss how I will purchase fuel there unless there is a money exchange near or on the Hungarian/Romanian border. Any ideas anyone?

there is an exchange at the border, but we just use our cash card in the cashpoint at the bank coz you get a better rate.

You can always get a small amount of cash from the travel agency if you need it for border crossings and food or you can use a Nationwide debit card to draw cash from the ATM standard transaction charge is £1 and then 3%. For hotels etc use your debit card. We hardly used any cash in Romania.

Us neither! We stopped at the first large town and drew some cash from the ATM in a bank.

Most places are just as happy to take Euro and change in leu, i hade no problem with that.
