A Bulgarian taxi driver has been arrested in the summer resort of Slunchev Briag (Sunny Beach) for robbing foreign tourists.
Lyudmil Fadzhiev (26) was driving a so called Kopurka cab, or a taxi with excessively high rates, which have been recently ruled illegal in the country. He had no permit to work in Slunchev Bryag in the fist place but had managed to infiltrate and "
would prowl around night bars and discos,"
the mass circulation Trud reported on July 11 2011.
An Israeli tourist then boarded his taxi and was asked to pay 100 leva for a journey of less than three km. When the man said he did not have enough money on his person, and that he would go to his room and take money, the driver asked him to surrender his golden ring and mobile phone.
Once the Israeli tourist returned, he discovered that the taxi had fled. The tourist then called the police and Fadzhiev was arrested shortly afterwards.
Once the police searched the vehicle, they found stolen wallets, five mobile phones, two digital cameras and the ID of a Dutch national. The investigation continues.
