Bulgarian MPs to take English lessons


Bulgarian MPs will begin English lessons this week which will be provided by the Government, the private television channel bTV reported on March 16 2011.

Those who complete the course will receive a diploma, the report said.

Among the first to enroll in the course is the GERB MP Emil Goushterov, who said "
he needed to take the course because he was a member of a foreign commission and wanted to impress foreigners"
, bTV reported.

Goushterov said that once he completed the course, he hoped to watch films without reading the subtitles.

Movement for Rights and Freedom MP Petya Raeva is also going to take the lessons. She said she wanted her English teachers to evaluate her according to her performance and not her position in Government, bTV reported.

The English courses will cost Bulgarian taxpayers 90 000 leva.
