if i was buying property in Bulgaria as seen on ebay and the likes, if an agreement was made and both parties were based within the UK, can we exchange in London and if so how.
hopfully i will get an answer as i don't wish to go back and forth everytime as i can see me doing this otherwise, plan is to do upto 2/3 months a year in Bulgaria.

Hi Paddy. It should be possible but I believe (and I'm no expert) that both parties would require a lawyer in Bulgaria to get the transaction through the Bulgarian courts. This can be done by both parties signing a power of attorney to allow their lawyers to represent them in Bulgaria.

Be warned ... The notarising of documents in the UK can be expensive, especially if they have to carry an 'apostile'

Yes Chris is right this we bought our property via internet and the lawyer send us the legal papers to sign but we had to visit the Bulgarian Embassy with all the papers and if one was not correct they would not help you as it is your responsibility to ensure all the papers, duplicate copies etc are ready for stamping. Then you have to go back again in a few days to collect the documents. It was a nightmare. there is no appointment system you just go and que to get in but there is no guarantee you will be seen. The office is only open from 9.30 to 11.30 on a Thursday you have to be there at 7am to stand any chance of getting in. We did the trip the twice, we did not have all the papers we needed we needed a photo copy of one but she would not do this so she sent us away knowing we had traveled hours to get there and waited in the que, she also knew we would not get back in the que again. The staff at the embassy were very rude. Second visit we got there at 8am qued until 11.30 one more person in front of us then they closed the doors. A really bad system I just hope they have changed it. I did manage to get everything sorted in the end as i wrote to the embassy complaining about the service, the time and cost and stress they put me through. only one document was missing I sent everything including their charges - a week later they sent everything back copied and stamped and also returned their fee.

thanks Chris and Oddball, well all i can say to that is Bulgaria here i come as London is bad enough without the que.

on the otherside of the coin, i noticed on ebay that they want paid for the property either within 24hrs or maximum 7 days, they don't even give you time to look at the house, or for that matter the flight out.
the best part of it is they say the house is in the Shumen area and name the village sometimes and google missed it on its visit to Bulgaria so what change do i stand in finding it, it's like saying i've got a small 4 roomed house within the London area and it turns out it's in Birmingham, but you've paid the money, your thinking good rents and theater and westend shows, and you end up with the NEC and canels.

anyway thanks and i will be at your Garden party with family unless i am lucky enough to lose them on the trip over, at the moment unknown amount of people.

CHRIS:- i've private e-mail and for some reason i have the pm's in my out box, have they been sent? or do i still have them.

Hi Paddy, if the PM's are still in your outbox, it means they've not been read yet. Once they've been read, then they'll disappear.
