Every Other Bulgarian Uses Internet
The percentage of Bulgarian Internet users has increased from 34% to 51% in the course of the last three years, according to the MBMD agency's latest poll.
91% of those who have declared they are Internet users have said they are online on a daily basis, 28% use it to talk with friends and relatives, 25% check their emails, 25% seek different sorts of information, 23% check out news sites and 19% are into social networks.
A mere 1% have claim the use the Internet for work-related activities.
Facebook is the most popular site in Bulgaria, according to the poll, followed by the local "
abv.bg"
and "
google.com"
More than half of the surveyed Bulgarians have claimed they do not read papers. The "
Trud"
and "
24 chasa"
daily papers retained their biggest market share, but have dropped from 33% to 21% and from 26% to 16% respectively. The two papers changed their owners at the end of 2010 when the Vienna-registered BG Privatinvest Ltd acquired a majority stake in them.
Two private channels – bTV and Nova TV have the highest viewer numbers, followed by the state- owned Bulgarian National Television.
