Tesco UK with an interest Romania? no comment on Bulgaria
The largest British retailer Tesco to examine Romania to enter the market with its subsidiary, the company's management hypermarkets, says ZF, citing unnamed sources.
By the company itself, however, still have not confirmed those plans.
"
We have no concrete plans to enter the Romanian market, meet Tom Hopkins, Director of Corporate Communications at Tesco, the publication of the inquiry.
"
Overall, do not respond to speculation on the future plans of our company,"
he added.
Given these circumstances, many of the large retail chains significantly slowed its expansion plans in Romania and in the region. Some are even resorting to cutting its staff to consolidate their business and offset the reduced consumption.
These factors have likely chance of entry of Tesco in Romania through acquisitions to become a local trader, says the publication.
Among other international market chains are active in Romania Carrefour, Real (Metro Group), Cora, Auchan and Kaufland. They have generated a total of about 3 billion sales in 2009, a drop of 10 percent over the previous year.
Tesco sales of EUR 62 billion pounds per year.
Recently, experts have indicated that international retailers are still interested in the possibilities for expansion of the market in Central and Eastern Europe, but that their plans are prevented by insufficient experience of many local players.
Then the company declined to comment whether they have plans to enter the Bulgarian market.
