Tesco bid for assets of Carrefour in Asia
The third-largest chain retailer in the world-Tesco, is among the ten participants bid in the first round of the auction for assets of the French supermarket chain Carrefour in South-East Asia, forward Financial Times.
Furthermore, the British Tesco, have participated in the bidding and several large retailers in Europe, along with private equity investment firms and local retail chains in Singapore and Thailand. These are specified for publication sources familiar with the matter.
Surprisingly, according to them is that they have not received an offer from U.S. company Walmart, which is the biggest chain retailer in the world and identify Southeast Asia as an important area for its expansion.
The deadline for inclusion in the auction is expired, but now offer from Walmart is not expected.
Confirmed candidates include Singapore Chain Retail Dairy Farm, the second largest supermarket chain Aeon in Japan and the French supermarket Casino.
The large number of participants in the initial stage of bidding showed that Carrefour has a good chance to obtain the desired tsenaot 800 million to $ 1 billion for its total of 61 stores in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
Tesco is the market leader in Thailand and Malaysia with a market share of 13% and 10% and is alleged to have made the offer to purchase all the assets offered for sale by the French chain, which is second in market share worldwide.

Asia has become a source of 8% of sales of Carrefour for 86 billion euros in 2009.
Carrefour is considering making another attempt to enter the Russian market from which to withdraw in 2009, and to increase the number of stores in Brazil, China, Turkey and Indonesia through acquisitions or partnerships.
