PostSubject: I Feel Sick   I Feel Sick Icon_minitimeFri Dec 31, 2010 5:37 pm

This is not a nice thing to read on New Years Eve.
I have just looked on the forum here in Turkey and my stomach turned. Some scum here had chained a dog to a tree and set light to it, the screams of the dog could be heard for some distance. Local people had seen who had done this sickening act and would not make a statement, so they get away with it.
This just reinforced why we want to leave here. Some replies to this post are unbelievable and saying lots of things go on in Britain and other country's. What is wrong with some of these Expats?
They just will not wake up to what is going on around them in Turkey. I Feel Sick 927475117

OMG this is terrible I'm lost for words and to think that they would believe that this is how the British would behave is appalling to say the least I Feel Sick 794030042 I am sorry to hear about this and I take it you were whiteness to it or at least the cry's from the poor creature which will stay with you for a while but I hope that these sort of things in these barbaric countries are soon eradicated and to think they want to become part of the civilised world I Feel Sick 3135333095

You know what life in Turkey is about as you lived here.
Expats i have spoken to just shrug there shoulders and say we live in Turkey if you don't like it leave! This seems to be the attitude from some of them regards many things that go on here. Not a good answer from our fellow countrymen.
Yes we know cruelty goes on all over the world to animals, but this poor creature died in agony and it was done by boys aged between 12-14 years. So why did the witnesses not want to put a report in to the Police?
Life here by some wearing rose tinted glasses.
While you were on the forum did you also read of the three people deported just before Christmas. Yes we all know you shouldn't work here, but you must of known people that worked while you were here. Two of them were customers helping set up a TV for the Christmas festivities. Some expats felt compassion but most tried to bring them down even more.

Itchyfeet....I tend to agree with expats who say 'If you don't like it leave' who are we as expats to expect other people in their own country to act and behave as we do in ours?...plenty of expats left the UK for that very reason, saying that Britain is no longer what it used to be and thats it's changing to accomadate the views and wants of foreigners (just like ourselves in other countries).
Fact is you can't work in Turkey, get caught...get deported...Simple. People know the risks and if they want to take them then they suffer the consequences.
Don't misunderstand me...I DO NOT disagree that what happened is cruel. I just question why you think it's wrong of expats to voice their opinions.

I also understand what your saying and yes it does go on in the uk here is a case last year. Now don't get me wrong because I have posted this it doesn't me I think its fine or I am making light of it but just pointing out that even in a so called civilised society it happens :Headbang:but what can we do? except make others aware.

BBC News
A dog has been tied to a fence, covered in petrol and set on fire on a football field in Liverpool.

Passers-by heard the cries of the female Staffordshire bull terrier-cross in Kirkdale, and tried to help, but the animal had to be put to sleep.

The one-year-old dog had been missing for a few days, the RSPCA said.

RSPCA chief inspector Simon Small: "
The fact that someone could do this to a living creature is beyond comprehension."

This dog suffered tremendously before she died. This was a deliberate act of extreme cruelty
Simon Small

The incident happened on Tuesday night on a sports pitch off Stanley Road.

"
It doesn't get worse than what happened here,"
Mr Small said.

"
I've never had to deal with an incident like this in my nine years with the society.

"
This dog suffered tremendously before she died. The RSPCA is urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

"
This was a cowardly and cruel attack on a defenceless animal whose suffering was immense,"
Mr Small said.

Fully understand all the emotions here and the views of all the posters yes its a horrible thing to happen anywhere to any form of life and unfortunately he does happen the world over but this doesn't make it any less sickening I think the problem here is the understanding we must all have with each others views which having read all this you are all really saying the same thing except there are those of you who have pointed out that its not just limited to Turkey.

Yes, it does go on in Britain and elsewhere in the world. In Bulgaria, of course, there is "
dog-spinning"
, which is probably not great fun for the dog.

Sorry to read your post. It's sad that some people consider cruelty to be ok. But hopefully if some people do care and continue to stand against it then eventually it will be stopped. I Feel Sick 794030042

Unfortunately the world is not a perfect place. It is very difficult to understand the mentality of people who commit such horrendous cruelty. Watch Animal Planet's 'Animal Cops....' and sometimes it doesn't bear watching because of the cruelty to defenceless animals. These programmes and animal sanctuaries are the places to get involved with otherwise there is little a lone person can do whether expat or not. Should I see cruelty being committed on my doorstep, then I would step in as I have a couple of times trying to stop a little child throwing his puppy around unnecessarily. Its not fair to complain about attitudes in Bulgaria which is a poor country. There are many things to adjust to when you live abroad and, as has been said, one should not criticize the way it is, because that is exactly why some folks leave UK.
