| How terrible this must be for all those people living there. Once again we see massive floods in Europe this has become the norm from climate change now if only the ignorant will wake up in their opposition to saving our planet. |

[size=150:811v8r2s]Bulgaria floods: At least 10 killed in port city of Varna
The Black Sea town of Varna has received the equivalent of a month's rainfall in 24 hours
At least 10 people have died and several are missing after torrential rain and heavy floods hit eastern Bulgaria, officials say.
Floodwaters in the Black Sea port city of Varna surged up to 1m (3.2ft).
Many residents had to be rescued as cars were swept away. Hundreds have been left without electricity or food.
There have been hailstorms and heavy rain in several parts of Bulgaria in recent days. Forecasts say the extreme weather is set to continue.
The fast-rising waters swept away cars and flooded homes
The floodwaters arrived so quickly that some people were caught by surprise
The flooding in Bulgaria follows on from similar deluges in the Balkans last month
More bad weather is forecast for the end of the week Forecasters said that the equivalent of a month's worth of rain fell in the regions of Varna and Burgas over the last 24 hours.
" The tragedy is enormous. I am here on a street in the suburb of Aspruhovo. The street is not here, the houses are not here, there are cars on top of each other," Varna mayor Ivan Portnih was quoted by the Reuters new agency as saying.
Fire-fighters in the town of Kilifarevo in central Bulgaria rescued 11 people from the tops of their houses, police said.
Last month nearby Serbia and Bosnia were hit by the worst flooding since modern records began. |

| Words cannot describe this situation, it is frightening and the fact that water can be so dangerous and we can't do a thing about it is very worrying. Looking at those pictures makes you wonder how a car weighing one ton can be lifted and swept away and nothing can be done to stop it A total disaster and the loss of life makes it a major catastrophe |

| Very sad indeed, the Bulgarians have very little but they have each other which is more than most can say around the world. |

| VG for the updates -it is heartbreaking to see and hear such awful news. Thankfully the EU and the government are working together now to aid were they can, but it is all those poor people who will be left with little or nothing and will have to start all over again. I do hope their government will help. :Angel2:There is a fundraiser on Facebook too. |

| Some people here in UK are still waiting for Governmant help for suffering loss of homes and businesses in the terrible flooding occurring last December. Natural disasters occur worldwide unfortunately. I feel that unless people can physically or financially help those in trouble its pointless making comments on a forum which none will probably read anyway but be busy mopping up or sitting on a rooftop waiting for rescue. |

| Oldun thank you for our comments and yes you are probably right regardng public help however, I would say never undersetimate the kindness and good will shown by many people in times of disaster. No they can't bring back what was lost nor their family and friends but having someone there to support and help where needed is a godsend it itself, this is what matters most - The rest are materil things that can be replaced. So even on a forum one person can read and make difference, financially, physically or even in prayers. We all need to remember it could happen to us one day. |

Bulgaria's Environment Ministry Warns of Impending Risk of Floods
Bulgaria's Ministry of Environment and Waters has warned on Monday of possible sudden local floods in the next few days.
Based on the current meteorological situation, the levels of the rivers Arda, Maritsa and Tundzha are expected to go up on Monday and Tuesday.
Waters may rise due to the controlled drainage of micro-dams, the press center of the Environment Ministry informs.
At present, the highest levels are recorded for the rivers Rusenski Lom, Tundzha near Elhovo and Yantra near Karantsi. |
