Majority of Bulgarians Skeptic about Prenuptial Agreements
Only 164 couples in Bulgaria have signed prenuptial agreements in the last 6 months, data from the Registry Agency shows.
The option was introduced half a year ago and experts believe the low interest stems from lack of tradition and prejudice.
From the 164 couples, one third is in Sofia, flowed by the Black Sea capital Varna with 11 families with prenuptial agreements.
The most common clause is ownership on certain property in case of divorce, followed by alimony and child support arrangements. Other clauses include custody, payment of household bills, funding the children’s education.
In Bulgaria, prenuptial agreements are signed most often in cases when the husband is wealthy and older, the notaries public say. People who already have 1 or more marriages are also interested in such arrangements.
Lawyers further report that Bulgarians are still unaware about the possibilities offered by prenuptial agreements and avoid even consultations. Another reason is people trying to not spend money on legal advice in times of crises.
