First topic message reminder :

Just thought i would pass a little information on.if you have an accident while driving on an Engish Licence, and it involves a penalty,ie points, they are unable to take points off your English Licence.a little differant to England a Bulgarian licence starts with points on it,if you have an incident then they take points off, when your at zero, your banned.anyway back to the point if you have an accident they cant do anything with your licence,so what they do is force you to get a Bulgarian licence,so they then can take the points off,i would also like to add that although its a straight swap its just for a basic licence,ie if you have a motorbike licence thats extra tests to upgrade, also to enable you to tow a trailer, extra test, this has happened to my wife,we are just in the process of getting her licence, believe me its a nightmare all the paperwork,so all you guys be careful.

EU's New Driving License Directive to Take Effect Friday

Starting Friday, all new driving licences issued across the EU will be in the form of a plastic "
credit card,"
with a standard European format and tougher security protection.

The new driving licence directive which takes effect tomorrow mandates that all new licences must follow a common format – credit-card-sized plastic licences which expire every 10-15 years.

The new European licence will progressively replace the more than 100 different paper and plastic models currently in use by more than 300 million drivers across the EU.

Existing licences are not affected, but will be changed to the new format at the time of renewal or at the latest by 2033. The European driving licence can be adapted to incorporate national symbols as decided by each member state.

The new driving licence includes a number of security features to make it "
tamper proof"
and to avoid falsification.

Good question Gimp but I can not answer this? I would think that unless you have a Bulgarian license the rule will be the same.

Here's a bit of useful info .

Driver Licenses in Bulgaria

In 2014 the EU has forbidden drivers from having two driving licenses.
The purpose of this European directive was to end situations when people had two driving documents and when one was taken away, to drive with the other.
Presently driver's licenses are issued at the place of permanent residence of the holder /driver/.

Information about replacing of driving license issued in another country

List of documents that should be submitted to the Traffic Police:

1. Application Form - this will be provided by the Traffic Police.
2. Current Driving License - as it is important the driver licence to be valid.
3. ID document /passport./
4. An official medical document confirming that the applicant is in a good physical health and can drive.
5. Declaration about usual residence of the applicant or a residence permit for the Republic of Bulgaria.
It is recommended those the applicant to bring originals and simple copies of all the documents.

Before issuing of the Bulgarian driving licence the competent authorities of Bulgaria will contact the authorities of the country issued the previous driving license in order to check whether the previous license was not limited, suspended or withdrawn.
